Man City went the most nuts I've ever seen in FM during the January transfer window of my last FM07 season, I was utterly flabbergasted, esp. since real life managers often say they don't make (many) big signings in January.
Day after day came news that either someone had signed a Man City player for £10-20 mill or that Man City had signed someone for a similar amount. Initially they seemed to just be selling loads of first teamers, then they started splashing the cash. In the end they must have both signed and sold ~10 major players for totals of ~£150 million in and out.
The bizarre thing was they were title challengers and they had an astoundingly good defence (just 4 goals conceded in the league into December after which they conceded a few more, but were still the best defence in the league) prior to that. Even more ridiculous was that they were still awesome thereafter and went on to pip Manchester United and my Derby County team to the title despite trying to gel so many new players!
portsmoth go nuts on my game buying up all the english young talent.
they bought a young manutd keeper for about £18mil and this is in the 2nd season.
in 1 and a half seasons they must have spent a good 40mill or more on young enlglish players.
