Ok, in the past, I have been quite vocal in my displeasure at 8.0.1 and some of it's issues, and have also tried to come up with workarounds. Today though, I noticed something intriguing.

About a week ago, I did a fresh install of FM08 and Beta Patch 1, after reading how it had the best match engine and so on. A few days on, I was enjoying it, but noticed I had morale issues and players reacting slowly/getting "stuck in the mud", lingering too long on the ball and so on.

I decided, against my former opinions of 8.0.1 i.e. shots going straight to the keeper, poor defensive issues and the near post corner bug (where if you have someone set to near post, that's all that's used in corners until you stop having someone at NP and then corner variation comes back), I'd install 8.0.1 straight on top of Beta Patch 1, just to see if the morale issues would be fixed.

Thankfully, they were - I'd win, and my players would be happy once more. But that's not all - oddly, I noticed the Near Post corner bug wasn't occuring, even with someone at the Near Post. I was also scoring just as well as before, even though the match engine changes immediately after patching, and I didn't seem to be experiencing the shots on goal ratio problem as I did with 8.0.1 straight on top of vanilla FM08.

This isn't the first time I've noticed things occuring patch installs i.e. installing a patch on top of a previous patch vs installing on a fresh copy of FM08 and getting different bug issues, when surely if you get 8.0.1, you get 8.0.1 bugs, right? In my case, seemingly not so.

Just to clarify:

FM08 > 8.0.1 = Near post bug present
FM08 > Beta 1 > Beta 2 > 8.0.1. = Near post bug present
FM08 > Beta 1 > 8.0.1 = No Near post bug

As I mentioned in a thread a few months ago when I reported on something similar to this happening, is the full patch not updating certain parts of the game?

I'm tired and it's mind boggling. I'm off to bed and I'm well and truly confused.
