Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default how to cope with fast strikers

how do you think is the best way to deal with any fast strikers who are a threat. I am Sunderland 1st season with Caldwell and Billy Jones as my 2 CH.
If i come up against a team with a fast striker i go with a deep defensive line and jones (pace 14) as tight marking.
Do you think this should work or am i way off the mark.

cheers for any comments in advance

Might want to set never close down as well so your center backs don't overly commit and get left in the dust.

My defenders have pretty good pace (I build my teamas around pace, stamina, work rate and off the ball), but my basic tactics ALL call for the DCs to be on the highest rare, or lowest medium closing down. I also put them on a barrow. I do not want to get beat for pace, or by a through ball. Defensive line varries from 9-12 in normal situations...I push it up against a 3-3-2-1-1 or 4-5-1 (also increase closing down for DCs).
Using this system it is VERY rare that an opposing striker ever gets clear of my defenders and in on goal. (Also tackling normal). To use this approach you MUST have a DMC on a fairly defensive setting with a high closing down. I play a 4-1-3-2 and all 4 midfielders have closing down around 14-16, regardless of their creative talents.
This has worked wonders for me since FM05
