It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

FM is made by english football lovers
if it was possible, they would take penalties with a cross.
so a tall jumper with 17+ heading, jumping, stamina is always the key to win everything.
i bought the Iranian hashemian, to my Panathinaikos team, heading 19, jumping 19, and he gets 30+ winning headers in every match and at the end of the season he had in 46 matches 23 man of the match 34 goals and 22 assists.
I used him as an target man and I set all my squad cross aim to him

just perfect
try it

I have never used a big target man...well except in FM05 with Jan Koller at Dortmund and MAN was he incredible!
If using smaller, pacey, techincal strikers (my preference) the whole tactic has to be built arond them. I always play counter-attack. As a previous poster said, I use a lot of through balls. If I set a target man it is the strikers set to run onto ball. I also put my strikers on high creative freedom with mdifielders pushing forward with high creative freedom too. The strikers will come wide, drop deep and creat space for surging midfielders to exploit gaps in the defence.
I love a counter-attack goal more then anything else. There is someting so beuatiful about it to me.

All well and good lads, but not what the thread starter was after, all of this.

I agree, pace conquers all. It's the single most important attribute simply because it's the easiest to code. To be fair how do you express things like creativty and such in mathematical terms?

i used David Healy and Robbie Blake as my main strikers. THey scored 40 goals between them and got my Leeds team promoted the first season. My tactics was mainly involve in getting the ball knock in front of them or to their feet depends on what the opportsition defenders are like.
