I figured...FM2007 comes with sliders that have 20 options. (1-20). Now I'm thinking... Players also have attributes from 1-20. Maybe those are connected?
I will try putting together a tactic that will MATCH each of my players' stats and see if it works.
i think the key here is the other way round. make a tactic that is rather symmetrical, and get players for it. and not make a totally staggered tactic by setting all instructions according to players uve already got.
Be very careful with passing. A skill of 1 passing definitely does not want the lowest possible slider setting for passing, as the guy won't be able to do it. Similarly, 20 will just result in the guy lobbing the ball to nowhere.
Depending on your preferred style of play, you may need to find a compromise, such as 1 and 2 = 15 on the slider, 3 and 4 = 14.
If your trials work then great, but I think it's a little too simplisitic in my opinion. You may be able to work a rough guide out, but you may need some complicated formulae to get it to work properly.
Passing attribute would be conversely related to passing style.
I don't think mentality, closing down and such would really reflect any attribute(s) of the players.
I think it is much more important to have instructions that suit the formation and what you want the team to achieve rather than what individual players are capable of.

Neither would passing, someone with a 1 passing atribute would not be able to play a short passing 1 on the slider game. As that is 1 touch football.
