i guess that in the attacking part you also put the d-line up to about 12 and perhaps with offside trap?

Yes, i too would like a better description of the attacking formation that you gentlemen are using.

I tried to implement one against a team whom i was heavily favored to win. Every player on attacking mentality 14 or 15 or better, high defensive line 15 or so, slow, short, and wide.

I got killed. Never seen so many wide open chances to score. 22 shots against, 19 on target. Yikes!!!

The defensive description provided worked very well against a team i was an underdog to. Kudos there, i think you are really on to something. The attacking version i obviously misunderstand what you two were trying to explain.

Hmm.. the team i defeated at home, who was heavily favored over me (Barca), just pounded me on the road using the same defensive counter attacking formula that was so successful a week earlier.

I defeated them 2-0 in the first leg of a Spanish Cup tie, holding them to 4 shots. Well a week later and with the same lineups i was destroyed. 25 shots to 5, they scored a 3-0 win and i was eliminated.

I don't know if it was my tactics, my players (i have a very good Atletico squad, i think), my team talk, my coaches, my training, or media interaction.

I have played this game since FM 2005, and i can't believe i am going to stop. I have been on this forum, and many others, and i have read and experimented with almost every tactical variation that players have been kind enough to spend time to discuss.

SI has to put out a game each year so they of course realize the need to add new features so there is a justification to buy each new version. However, in my opinion the way these new options all interact has led to much confusion. Players get hurt, is it my training? Do i need to spend a lot of time on new schedules? I'll see what others are doing. Not winning, is it player morale?, team talks? Have i not figured out the magic formula that seems to override anything else, including tactics, to give my team a win.

As stated above, tactics were always a grey area as it was. Many 'experts' on here still disagree about even the most basic slider usage. Combine this with all the other variables, some which seem so powerful at sometimes and not at others.. very frustrating.

Before someone writes that i didn't have success after a couple of games and is now bitching, i'm afraid thats not the case, this has been brewing a long time. I have put many, many hours into FM the last few years. Probably more that i should.

requires so much attention when playing the game. FC's constantly swapping positions, man marking changing targets. My players moving into wrong positions from bugs; away games are far too inconsistent, especially if ur the favored team.

I believe the AI have cracked my away tactic now or they are cheating as for the last 5 away games i have at least 1 person sent off normally my keeper, and what is worse I don't see the incident to the sending off. I watch the game on extended highlights and it just shows on the main screen that my keeper has been sent off and it just shows the penalty being taken which the oppostion always miss(is this a bug?) My home form is just unbeatable but need to work on the away fixtures again, but it dosen't help when the game is flawed imo as i cannot even field a keeper in some games now as they are all banned.

you use those things mostly depending on your player attribures

example: your striker have good pace and speed and dribling you will use foward runs

i know that. but its obvious he is keeping it symmetrical. at least from the info above.

That should be same for most people who use direct football. You can't dominate posession if you play direct.

Possesion not good about 44% -46% but it's what u do with it that counts!!
