It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

i dont know wether it is just me but i have found that whenever I play my 4 defenders on the same mentality i always concede less and hardly ever get players running in behind the defence. could this be becuase if all 4 defenders are on the same mentality they a play more as a unit and stay in-line on the field when defending?

any input would be much appreciated

Yes, of course. However, you have to weigh up the benefits (less attacking chances for opponent) with the detriments (less attacking chances for yourself).

good point but with formation im playing with villa at the moment i have a very attacking midfield so i dont really need the full backs support, still a good point though

I think in many cases it would be good defensively to have a flat defensive line. However, in cases where the opposition does not have side forwards or wingers going forward or at AM R/L the FBs would just be a waste.

Also seeing your tactic, you have forward runs mixed for FBs while same mentality as CBs. You could have gone with forward runs rarely along with a higher mentality. There isn't too much difference between the two.

What I'm saying is, it is prudent to have your FBs overall style (defensive or attacking) not too different to your CBs (especially when managing not so good teams).

i think it very risky to let your full backs go onwards all the time if opposition dont have wingers or FL/FR, some strikers like to peel off or move into channels under pref moves. probably best to employ offside trap when doing this.
