So, Michael Schumacher retires from Formula One and start playing Football Manager 2007. 7.0.0 or 7.0.1?

if you have/want some insights on sweeper configuration/variation i urge you to check the original sweeper discussion, to help sweeper enthusiasts find info in one place!

Giving him a Farrow to the DMC position whereby he can bring the ball out of defence and look to spread passes and making himself generally available as support to the midfield.
I would like to try this when I have time but I would guess that the type of player you will need will need to have good passing, Decisions, Dribbling and Stamina.
| That would require a very skilled player, and I doubt there is one available that would have all the needed stats to cover the defensive roles and midfielder roles.

I don't necessarly like getting into other threads with my own system and discussion...
The system I use vs the ones presented there seem quiet different.

You could deploy it without the dribbling the ball from the back though. Players of this caliber would be found in South America I guess who are technically skillful. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Also if you have him come up to help the middle, what happens if you lose the ball around the midfield?
I think at that point he will be completly out of position, thus rendering the role of a sweeper kinda pointless... At least that's how I vision this.

If you flick through World Cup memoirs, you'll see that the role of the sweeper, wasnt just to sweep, but to make a contribution to the side offensively. Mattias Sammer and Lotthaur Matthaus are probably the most well-reputed players in this position, and both performed their dual obligations with panache.
...Its a feature that should be made more achievable within the FM series. I find that, in spite of the forward arrow, and instructions liberating them from their defensive chores, when the team is attacking, the sweeper fails to get beyond the backline!

What skills/stats would you be looking for such a player?
Also what if you find a good DMC with great tackle, anticipation, decision, positioning and even marking and have him retrain to SW and play this role? Would that work?
I may give it a try in my easy Ajax games as I have Tamas as a SW/DC/DMC in my team although he isn't the best player out there.

I did try that tactic for the last games after I secured my title.
I haven't seen any improvements over my old tactic, just a few more trough passes from the sweeper to the striker. Although I didn't give this tactic too much of a chance as I decided to switch compleltly to a 4-1-2-2-1 for the next season due to the fact that my team can't get past the first knock out round of CL.
So far so good with my new tactic, 27 games, 20 clean sheets for my new keeper Ustari (finally replaced Stekelberg sp?).
Anyway, I think I will go back to my Dortmund game for a bit to try the variations of the sweeper formation again.

| He was getting usually 7s. He only managed to get about 30 passes a game from which 25-28 succesfull and I'm not sure how many key. I know he got 3 assists in those 6 or 7 games.
He only got caught out of positions a few times, but every time I got scored against when he did get caught. The problem was that my fullbacks were too offensive though, so I think if I take the Farrows away from them it should be better. But as I said I gave up on the sweeper idea as it was killing me in Europe, and that's where I want some successes mostly now (after 3rd season in charge).
I was just thinking now, what if instead of the SW going into the DM position you have:
___________DMC____________
____________|_____________
DL ---- DC -|- DC ---- DR
____________|_____________
____________¥_____________
So pretty much he starts as DMC, and falls back to SW when the team losses possesion of the ball.
