Default *nicnakz* 4141 formation, defensively good for 7.0.1

Ok, here is a tactic for 7.0.1 I've been using Home and Away and i've found that other than when the pitch is wet, ive consistently managed over 55% possesion and over 75% pass completion.

Players needed?

DR/DL - solid at defending, dribbling, crossing.
DC - a pace 15+ CB prefered, heading and jumping over 15 helps allot for set pieces, and typical CB stats required.
DCL - Closes down slightly higher, put ur more aggressive DC here.
DMC - Definitely require a DMC that has an attacking mindset. Longshots, passing, creativity, desisions, and good heading.
MCR - Same as the DMC, but not necessarily require good heading. Tackling is a plus. This position is suited for the "playmaker" if u wish to use one.
MCL - Goal poacher AMC/FC required. Anticipation, finshing, OTB.
ML/MR - Dribble must be very high, crossing and creativity needs to be adequate too.
FC - Pacey Striker, with good finishing, first touch. Basically similar to the MCL guy.

Make sure ur best freekick taker takes all freekicks. For me, it's the MCR player. So if urs happens to be any other, then u need to alter the setpiece instructions to make sure u dont have 1 less man in the box. For example, if the MR is ur best freekicker, then switch the "Set piece freekick" instructions with the MCR player.

Team Instructions http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g256/nicnakz/team.jpg

The Formation http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2.../formation.jpg

The formation is a 4141 by the looks of it.
When defending it changes to a 4231, the MCR will drop and stand next to the DMC. This makes it very difficult to run through the middle, although goals still come through, it'll require a quick pass to penetrate. I've noticed as soon as a lowball is fed through to the opposing FC, he'll have 3-4 people close by closing him down (both DCs and both DMCs).

When attacking the focus and most goals tend to come from 4 possibilities.

1. pressure around box until someone gets laid off a shot pass and a 20+ yard goal is scored.
2. a cross from either ML or MR scored by either the DMC, MCL, striker, or opposite ML/R.
3. Set Piece scored by the head, or a rebound. This happens allot, i can confidently say 40% of my goals are related to a setpiece.
4. a long through ball over the top of the opposing defenders and a goal scored by FC, ML, MR, or MCL.

Anything special?

- After analysing this tactic and tweaking it for hours, ive noticed having the MR holding up the ball has a dramatic impact on how he performs. I believe this is because he holds up the ball, and then he is giving time for the MCL with the long farrow to get into the box. Having hold up ball gives him an average 40 passes in a game, as opposed to 30 without the hold ball option. (this has little effect on the ML).

- The MCL has a freerole

Personal Tweaks to individuals?

- Dont make any of the players have longshots on often. If he is above 15 then make him mixed. If he is less than 15, make it rarely.

- DL/DR if very low dribble, then make it have a rare dribble.

- DCs if dribble over 15 (which is kinda rare), then make the DC with it have dribble set to Mixed. May sound risky, but it isnt, it jus makes a link to the midfield. Preferably make this the DCL as he closes down harder.

- MCR is set to hard tackling, although the guy i use in this position has a low tackling i havent noticed anything but yellow cards yet u may want to change it to Normal Tackling.

Results

I haven't used the tactic for long, but from what i see (other than on a wet pitch), I've struck a nice balance of defence and attack. Im very happy with the smooth football; but most happy because it can be used home and away without much loss of performance for me (yet).
If i lose a match, I will have lost it being their match in possesion, passing, shots on target and on goal. Cant post my results because ive only had 6 games with it and havent lost yet.

Conclusion

Just try the tactic and if u happen to have nice players for the positions mentioned.
Though this tactic may seem to be for the top teams, and of course the top teams will win wotever formation u use (most the time), the key here is see if u like the type of football this produces irrelevent of the result

Also, make sure only fullbacks do throw ins. Left for left, right for right.

And make sure u pick the FC as targetman (but dont tick the box for target man).

If u read what i said at the conclusion then u will either try it and see if u like the style or dont.

doesnt hurt to see how it plays.

Anyway, for weaker teams, u will have to follow a different guideline for player individual instructions.

Suchs as;
Never have higher than Mixed Dribbling, or Normal Tackling.

And most likely have tomake the passing more direct across the broad. But then u will not see how this tactic should play, and the team will not play as ive made the tactic, even if it's more effective.

if u have the required players with the skills for the position, then i dont see why it wouldnt work for a weaker team.
the team does have a big dependant on passing and creativity, so maybe that is important to be high across the board, especially the front 6

ok gonna use caps as this is important.

Ive tweaked it further to reduce opponents shots on target. Also note u will have to apply both changes below for away games (15 d-line was too high)

---------------------------------------------

CHANGES FOR BOTH HOME AND AWAY.

1. CHANGE THE MCR DIAGONAL BACKARROW TO BE A SHORT BACK ARROW.

2. CHANGE MCL LONG FORWARD ARROW TO BE A SHORT BACK ARROW

----------------------------------------------

FOR AWAY GAMES ONLY.

1. CHANGE WIDTH TO 15

2. FOCUS PASSING DOWN FLANKS
---------------------------------------------

why do you play with more with in away games? Most of the people play a more compact game in away games.

ive tested it allot. and though i have changed it here and there, playing with high width away is very effective.

Look at the team instructions, the team mentality is defensive, you#d see the team will end up playing "arsenal" type football.

push up, pass around until an opening, then unleash the killer ball. Width helps allot as main weapon are the wingers and 3 guys that rush into the middle.

width gives u more chances forward, but same time gives opposition more chances too. I've tested it with every slider on width (away), and i like the shots on target comparison of 15 width as it results in better results.

Also, for away the passing is focused down flanks, no point playing narrow if ur going for the flanks imo.
