hi all,

I started a game as Athletico Madrid and after an average season, only winning the Spanish Cup 5th in the league and semis of the Uefa Cup, I want to know how you think I should improve my team to break the into the top 2 or even win the league. team at the mo is:

Enyeama/Leo Franco
Marvin Angulo DR
Perea CB
Pablo CB
Sepsi LB
Maniche DMC
Maxi Rodriguez RM
Mattias Fernandez LM
Arshavin AMC
Aguero FC
Forlan FC

seems a good team really but can be very inconsistent and im pretty sure i'll lose Aguero in the summer as Milan, Barca, Chelsea and Man Utd are knocking on the door.

Well tbh, it doesnt seem that good. Sure, the attack is great. But that defence is nowhere close to being good enough to make you a top contender for the league.

Perera is rubbish in the air. Cant jump, cant head. Pablo is fine I suppose. Sepsi is decent at best. Marvin Angulo becomes great but I dont think he's be close to good enough in season 1 and 2. You can improve your DMC. What the hell is Maniche doing there??? You must seriously improve your defence to make a chance of winning the league.

The attack is great no doubt. Try you hardest to hold on to Aguero. And if he does go, nothing less than 50-60M.

How much money do you have to spend? Cant give recommendations unless we know how much you have to spend. Oh, and also, who are your backups?

Try getting Amauri from Palermo if Aguero goes, he's an absolutely class finisher very consistent.
Often over looked in here, but I think he's one of the best in the game

not gonna have a great deal of money to spend... probably only about 10million tops.

backups defensively are very slim... only 2 or 3 players sakho pick of them and he's only 17!

I always hear stories of people selling players for 15million etc.. but on my games noone seems to come in with anything of the sort!

Maniche was only playing there because no other DMC and by the time the transfer window had closed i was up sh*t creek

Keep Pablo but replace the rest of your defense imo. Angulo looks good on paper but in my experience never really develops well and makes too many errors. Perea and Sepsi are both substandard.

Maniche has to go. DMC is arguably the most important position for a diamond formation so you need someone world class there.

Arashvin has great stats but I'm not sure he can cut it at the top level as he's already on the decline in 2008. Maybe ok for a UEFA cup level team but not CL standard.

The rest look good. Check out Willian for the AMC position, absolute legend in my current game but dont see him mentioned much on these forums.

Well you can sort out your DM needs easily enough. Get either Lassanna Diarra or Mathieu Flamini off Arsenal on a season loan. You wont need to bother about that one position anyway.

For CB, I'd suggest getting Mirel Radoi. Got for about 1.5M in season 1. Might be a little more in season 2. Great CB and great DM too. Also, try to Matias Cahais if he's still cheap. Decent enough backup at the start and becomes very good in a couple years. Patricio Araujo from Chivas is another cheap and good CB/DM.

You could buy Justin Hoyte from Arsenal for about 2-3M. He's a decent enough RB. Better than Angulo anyway. For LB, try Gonzalo Pineda. He starts at Chivas. If he's still there, he'll probably be cheap. I mentioned Diarra earlier. He plays RB too and is good there.

TBH, if you only get like 10M as you say to spend, I would look to offload Aguero and get about 40M odd for him. He should attract that kind of fee. That money will help you strengthen your squad in areas where it really needs it. And you could buy a good striker for a quarter of the price as well (not as good I dont think though).

But yeah, concentrate on defence.
