We are all Lower League Managers and the majority of us stick to the same side bringing them (hopefully) from the depths to the peak of the top league. Some of us fail and are unceremoniously booted out the door by unforgiving Chairmen who can't tell their arse from their elbows. The few strong (or lucky) sperm like Llama's reach the pinnacle heights and hit the jackpot.
But what of the other rare Llama? The one that starts at the bottom gains reputation and then claws his way to the top by jumping ship when the opportunity presents itself.
With CM4 rapidly approaching, I'm trying to express my way to the top in my present game. In my fourth season with Fisher Athletic, we sit on top of Div 3 and look like being a shoe-in for promotion. Up pops the news item that Div 1 side Plymouth Argyle who are sitting 19th are in search of a new manager. What the heck. I apply, and await their response.
The next news item garbbed my attention:
Your board of directors have heard rumours that you are looking at management opportunities elsewhere.
They stress that if these rumors were substansiated then they would be forced to look for a manager who was more committed to Fisher.
This from a board who believes that our Awful facilities do not need improvement. Still very happy with my performance though.
I usually stick with the same side, but in my current game, i've been hopping from club to club. I've managed three clubs, and two national teams in less than ten years.
I went from South Melbourne, to Football Kingz, then while I was there, got the USA job, then resigned from the Kingz, going to the Olympic Sharks for a week before quitting, while quitting my USA job to manage Columbia.
I tend to hop about unless I'm really happy with the side. I just find it near impossible to achieve promotion and so need to jump ship to help my career.
Similar to what EssexMan said. I can easily stay at a club for 10-15 seasons as long as I can see some sort of improvement every year, although once I've had 2-3 years at the top I get bored and jump ship.
I never really play the careerist style though, I only ever jump downwards.
In my current game I stayed with Imotska Krajina for around 8 or 9 seasons but became frustrated that the board wouldn't expand the stadium (2500 no-seater) despite having the funds and finishing 4th and 3th in the top flight and reaching the 3rd round of the UEFA Cup.
I left for Rijeka (one of the bigger teams in Croatia) but got sacked there
I usually stay at a single club for a long time. Although I do tend to apply for jobs if any take my fancy, its just if they get back to me I find it hard to leave what I'm building so stay
I'm my current game with Ballyclare Comrades I'm looking to move on after a couple of seasons. Is harding trying to build a decent reputation sometimes :sigh:
