A few quick answers...

Completely depends on the speed/power of your machine.
Matter of debate. Some think so, some think not whilst some sit on the fence. Do what you feel is right.
The slower it is, the less you will miss, but personally I don't have the patience to play it slow.
Depends if you have a bunch of footballers in your squad or a bunch of arsebandits!

I've given up now. My brain is in bed.

How many leagues/background leagues do you recommend running?
<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

All of them. It makes the "world" more realistic. The more the better I say. Otherwise you see the same teams from the non-selected leagues in the same competitions every year. Also, when you do play teams from other countries they have fewer fake (greyed-out) players, which means you have the opportunity to track more players throughout their career.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>
Is the "interested" option considered cheating?
<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

LLM is all about simulating the trials and tribulations of a real manager. If you think it's realistic then go ahead and use it.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>
What speed do you recommend running the matches on? (I have been trying fast instead of very fast but even thats quite slow, if that makes sense).
<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I'd try a few games on slow. You can react to things quicker and you have more time to analyse the game. If that bores you then pick a faster speed. I use all of them except 'very slow'.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>
and finally... don't you ever get the feeling that the changes and choices you make have no effect whatsoever?
<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

All the time. Yelling at the players helps calm the soul though.

sorry if I broke any of the rules,

None broken, none even dented, and welcome to the forum!

Welcome forest_john. A man that takes the time to absorb the forum (and rules) before plunging into his first post is a nice change.

What the other Aussie bloke said sums it up nicely.

1) As many as your computer can handle without screaming for mercy. I play with a minimum of all of Europe active. besides, it makes it easier to find jobs when you get sacked or have one to many run-ins with your board and want to leave.

2) Debated issue. In the end, it depends on how you view it. If you feel guilty using it, don't.

3) I play friendlies on very fast, and all league matches on slow unless the result is a foregone conclusion in a bad way. Then I indulge in the unrealistic dream of all RL managers to warp time and end the nightmare. IMHO, you can pick up things from crowd noise and background noises that can aid you in managing the game if you play it on slow. You lose those at higher speeds. I think my results speak for the veracity of my claim at this point. Though it does take me a week to play a season, sometimes longer.

1) I have all the leagues on my PC (apart from Swedish 2nd Division, which does not work on 3.9.65). With my management skills I need to skip countries quite often in my career.

2) Personally, I don't - but then it is personal choice. I feel it is kind of cheating as you won't know if a player is interested unless there was speculation or you approach them.

3) I vary a lot. Slow gives me more feel for the match - but I still don't get the kind of results I would like to have

It actually works fine. Just continue when the error pops up and it sorts itself out.
