No offense to anyone concerned, but personally I'm getting more and more annoyed about the amount of stories in this forum.
Yes I mean stories and not updates. Updates are a quick snapsot of how you are going. Five or six lines should be enough to cover what is happening. At present there seems to be an abundance of these epistles littering the forum.
It's fine to have an update on how you are going with maybe two updates per season, but these long winded posts have got to stop.
If you want to do a story, the CMS forum is for you.
well said buddy, the more of a story the updates become the greater the temptation to player name etc and its not what LLM is all about in my opinion, also by making it a story it can seema kind of bragging so like the man said keeping it to updates is the best way
Not totally sure whether my thread does or does not fall in the category you are moaning about, though I did asked Iajafer for a bit of help (style & table posting) in a couple of e-mails. I also asked him if my style is acceptable and he said it was fine.
I don't know... I've seen some who write a line or two on every match, where as I only write a similar amount on relevant matches.
Don't worry about player naming, I won't do that. For instance, I refer to my S C as Valey as I signed him from Port Vale, and my other S C as Scot as he is Scottish. And even if I did slip up, they're regens anyway!

Of course if the forum powers really don't like my update I'll transfer it to CMS.

EM, I'm not trying to say "you can't do this", "you must do that". It's my personal opinon and maybe the wording could of been put differently. I and the other Mods respect the opinions of the regulars and in most case the majority rules. We had a brief period where updates were kept in separate "Daily" update threads but most of us didn't like it as it was hard to follow a members progress and so it reverted to the present system. Of late (2 months or so) I just feel they have got out of hand.
I love a good update as much as anyone else, but this thread is the only non-update/story in the top ten.
Don't think this is a demand, because it is not. I'd just like to get some feedback on what other regular members feel on this. Your opinion is welcome & noted.
just wondering because as long as everyone is withing the rules, no tipping, player naming... etc. then there should be no problem with a few updates now and then... and if this is the only thread not an update in the top 10... then either thats what people in this forum like to write about or thats what they like to read... so even though my say means nothing ... update away... i like reading them... and non updates... as you can see
Well, Taip. You want a discussion thread, well, you've got it.
We both know that discussion threads will be few and far between untill CM4 comes out. It has been that way for quite a while and it wont change untill the demo comes out at the very least. As I see it this forum would be entirely dead if it weren't for the update threads. As you said this is the only top-ten thread that isn't an update thread, so let's be happy we have those at least.
As for many updates looking like stories, well, I'm pretty confident that mine isn't one of them , but even if it were I couldn't be forced to post it in CMS and neither should anyone else. I like to think that this diversity in updating styles is a good thing actually, and I would hate it if regulars like Essexman were forced to move forum just because some people think his updates have a few too many words in them.

Aye mate, thats the idea.
I agree that CM3 issues have been discussed to death & and that updates are the only real opportunity to express ourselves at present on the forum.
My concern is that due to this, newcomers to this forum are seeing just updates theads and think that is what the forum is all about. They join the bandwagon but thier updates become more of a story exercise, with each individual player and result being dissected, abit within the rules of the forum.

And I'm not pointing the bone at anyone in particular when I make that comment before anyone jumps up and down. :p
I remember at the beginning of my 2nd stint in LLM(yeah I had a dark and gloomy period in TT I admit it) that I asked for gides/ideas/advice on how to write your updates. I was told to go to CMS to get that, but maybe, just maybe it's time to make a guide. Not anything that will go down in the LLM ethos, but something that will give people a general idea of what is relevant info(I'm saving sigames a fortune by not spelling the entire word information ) and what isn't in an update.
I'd be more than willing to write it myself if need be. However, I think it's OK to allow a certain level of "creative" freedom as long as what's written follow's the ethics of LLM.
And I know you weren't pointing at anyone in particular
