Cheers Nobby

PRE-SEASON UPDATE

Well after barely surviving last year I set myself a number of targets in pre season. They are...

To improve the overall quality of the squad
Keep a small squad of 28 to 32 players
Cut costs
Get rid of some of the detritus

Well I met some of the criteria. The overall quality has been improved - some 10 players have joined us from clubs in higher leagues. The size of the squad has risen though - we now have 38 players on the books, obviously some will have to be sold.

It is even more important we can sell off a couple as we have debts of roughly -£1,300,000. Not good, I aim to have cut the squad to at least 30 players by Christmas.

I have managed to sell a few players though, we got £60k for last seasons first choice goalkeeper and I released 4 players who just weren't going to figure in my plans anymore.

My main aim this season is to have good cup runs and stay up, but with the quality of our attack this season we should be easily a midtable side. We shall have to wait and see wait happens...

Well this season was going better than expected before I got an unexpected offer from another club, this club offered the chance of another relegation battle. I couldn't say no really!

So after just 28 games in charge I'm leaving Hereford United. We've won 15, drawn 6 and lost 7 scoring 69 and conceding 47 - not a bad record in all. In total I brought 19 players to Hereford all on frees while selling 8 for a total of £200k - good business.

I leave them well placed in the league with a squad that is easily good enough to compete. I couldn't however improve on the debt -£1,451,682 is how it now stands and it will only grow until the club get some financial backing

Remember your a Womble

The club who came in for me were Wimbledon. Who at the time were sitting not so pretty at the bottom of Division One...

I had a large squad to work with, 43 players but I felt this was way too many players and immediately set about cutting some of the deadwood away and brought in a young German right back from Arsenal on loan til the end of the season and an experienced Goalkeeper from Man City also on loan. I also brought in two strikers a 31 year old target man on a bosman from Grimsby and the young striker who scored goals for fun with me at Hereford - he only cost £50k and at just 21 years of age he has plenty of time to develop further

All in all I have sold/released 18 players from the original squad and brought in 4. With 25 games to go I think we can still stay up and with the young squad of players I have at my disposal we should be alright...

How the hell did you get an offer from another club? Especially a Division 1 team?

Good stuff though. I would have a go at that myself if I wasn't engrossed in my Scotland game.

I have no idea to be honest, I've never been offered another job so quickly especially when my reputation was still on the last page of the list
