I have abandoned my Gravesend game, as I shall be picking up those reigns in CM4. I need a new challenge. Somewhere I have never been before.
Getting in me Peugeot I head for a land far north, across the border, Gretna to be precise. That's right, I've sold my soul and gone to Scotland. I need to be convinced they do indeed play football.
The board expect me to improve the squad. My first action is to send my 1 and only scout looking for youth players. It's all about building the foundations. I'll let you know how we go.
So strange to see such a small squad of players. But some of them don't look to bad. My scout uncovered a 19 y/o AMC, 19 y/o DMC, 19 y/o SC, 15 y/o DLC, 20 y/o AMRL, 19 y/o DRL and 16 y/o DMC. The SC looks good enough to start but I'll sit him on the bench.
Elgin City at home. League Cup 1st Rnd. We look good but lose 2-1. Nothing more to say.
Queen's Park at home. Name seems familiar. Opening league game of the season. We draw 1-1 after going a goal up. Not bad though. We could have lost.
Peterhead at home. Challenge Cup 1st Rnd. Excellent performance but all concerned and we thoroughly deserve to walk away 2 nil winners.
Peterhead away. Despite a good performance by the lads we lose 3-1. Team held up quite well until the second half. I think stamina is an issue.
East Fife at home. Finish 2-1 down. The 20 y/o AMRL scores a blinder from 25 yards in the 11 minute. But our defence is unable to hold up.
Elgin City at home. Challenge cup 2nd Rnd. This time we exact our revenge and run off 2 nil winners in front of an ecstatic crowd of 49. Our AMC scoring his first goal for us.
Albion Rovers away. A superb performance with my young SC scoring twice in a 2-1 win. We're moving up the table.
Morton at home in the Challenge Cup. There seems to be two many cups. Plus my lads seem to enjoy winning them although lucky for me it comes to an end in a thrilling 1-2 loss. Our AMC gets man of the match. 1354 turn up to see us lose. Let's hope they enjoyed it anyway and want to return.
Elgin City at home. Back to the league proper and we win again. This time 2 nil and I'm happy. We're 6th in the league.
Morton away. Morton again and we win 1-0 this time. That'll teach 'em.
Stirling away. 2-0 down in the first half. We fight back to 2-1 but are unable to equalise.
We're sitting ok in 5th. I'm amazed at the low attendance figures the way we keep playing the same teams. But I'm enjoying it.
