DJ,

I disagree. I never promise a player more playing time than I expect he will get, but I get the same issues. I'll promise him squad rotation and play him every other match like clockwork, and he'll still be unhappy. I'll promise "important first team player" and play him no less than 2/3rds of the matches, naming him to the subs bench every match he's fit enough to go, and still he'll give me that message. I never make players indispensible. That's just asking for trouble, in my mind. But I do my level best to give people as much playing time as I promised, and it doesn't matter.

In other words, that what your players are complaining about just can't be the real issue. Their rolodex is out of excuses for what is really troubling them, whatever it is.

My interpretation of 'indispensable': you're worth tons for us. Either you'll be a world-beater in our team (some day), or you'll be sold for a lot, a whole lot of money.

This does not mean I'll play you every match from the day you join us.

Lots of players seem to accept this happily.

DJ,

No, what I'm saying is that I don't think lack of playing time is the reason for this message, at least not in my case, since I don't give offers I don't intend to keep. When I managed in the French league, I had lots of problems with settling players. Italians, Scandinavians, Germans, Benelux, even UK players.

This game in Germany I don't have as many problems, though I was shocked with Norwegian and Finns arriving and instantly complaining. In fact, I promised the Finn squad rotation, and played him as a first team regular due to his form, and then immediately after the Pokal Cup final, he requests to move. Sure enough, I look at his messages, and guess what appeared immediately after the match.

Guess he didn't like the Becks we celebrated the win with.

Germans seem to be very keen to settle all over Europe - France, Belguim, Holland, Poland etc etc. Only really the UK and Russia that they seem to repel them

Apologies in advance !
