Hi everyone, first poster here! Bought FM08 at the weekend but am finding it hard to sell players who I don't want in the squad - anyone got any tips?

It is difficult to sell players in the game so it's not just you that's having this problem, however there are a few things you can do that help:

1. Set their transfer status to "Transfer Listed"

2. Set their squad status to "Not needed by club"

You should then offer the player to clubs for around 60-70% of their value. You will know how much the player is then truly worth by the number of responses you get back. If you immediately get 4 or more responses, you should then offer to clubs for around 90% or more of the value and work your way up from there.

Equally, you can get more for a player by offering him for less money up front by ask for additional options, such as £X after playing so many games, or a good one that someone on here used effectively is the £X after making first international cap.

If you find that you still can't move the player on, try loaning them out to another club for a season. Their reputation may increase meaning that they have more interest in them the following season or there is a likelihood that they will be bought by the team you loaned them to.

p.s. You'll find many people on the forums that would like the whole transfer/loan system re-worked for FM09 (me included), but these tips should help you in the meantime.
