What has been your most exciting match whilst playing Football Manager?
Mine was last night. Just started my third season in the game with Shrewsbury Town, having just got them promoted to League One, and I had a League Cup 1st round tie away to Bournemouth who were strong favourites.
I was trailing 0-2 at half time but managed to pull a goal back mid way through the 2nd half. In the 3rd minute of stoppage time we won a corner and even my goalkeeper came forward. My centre back headed it in to equalise.
So in to extra time and Bornemouth scored again to go 3-2 up but then two more goals from us and we won.
It was pretty exciting, which the media said likewise after the game. My players and assistant manager praised my half time team talk, which was a first, so that was pleasing
If the truth is to be told, I didn't realise it was a cup game and was a bit startled when the game went to extra time. I though I'd grabbed our first point of the season only to find out it was a cup game
I don't think I'd have played my strongest 11 if I had realised as I've got a League game now and my players are all knackered
By the way, I made a few tactical changes during the match which definitely helped win the game and it was pleasing to see my team score the stoppage time eqaliser when we were throwing the kitchen sink at them.
That's some game there. Who ever said this game wasn't realistic </BLOCKQUOTE>
The number of times we were in danger of throwing the game away was unbelievable, only to score again, concede again, etc.
Whitley Bay 5-6 Newcastle United (6-6 aggregate) in FM06 was my best ever match, for the goals certainly, but still more so for the fact that Newcastle played for 70 minutes with a winger in goal, quickly fell from 1-2 up to 5-2 down at half time against the best midfield trio in the world and then went hell for leather in the second half to score a 90th minute 25-yard winner.
I was managing both clubs, but both to the best I could, a fact borne out by the fact that I had wanted Whitley Bay to win!
I remember was back when in the CM days taking my title challenging Leeds side to then second division Millwall in the FA Cup. I put out a pretty strong side, and in a see saw game full of chances at both ends I escaped with a 5-4 win, with Millwall having taken the lead at least twice. Ah, the magic of the FA Cup
