I notice that a lot of my scout reports on my next opponent say they have a creative midfield. I can't figure out how to nullify this threat. If I close them down, they use their creativity to get by my men and create great attacking opportunities and if I set my defense to play deep, they have too much room to move...
If its just 1 particular individual you could tight mark him with your best marker, hard tackling, always close down and show onto weaker foot. That is something I often do.
However if the entire midfield seem very creative, then try and play a fastish tempo game and try and be more direct in your attacking approach. If the opponents midfield is creative then the last thing you wanna do is pass it around too much especially in midfield.

@Cleon,
is it an option to play the long ball style like the english teams did years ago and skip midfield play ? Didn`t test it, must be possible.
Just put the passing slider to the right as far as it will go.
I know you can play the long ball style. I was just wondering if it will be an effective tactic against teams with a creative midfield such as Barcelona ?

Cleon,
When you say tight mark him with your best marker, would you use man marking to make sure your best marker is always on him?

Thanks, I'll give it a go... as soon as we wrap up the ashes! :-)
barcelona arent a very good side in terms of aerial power. u can exploit that quite easily with direct and a rather physical midfield to win all the headers.
when playing against a creative midfield and espeically fi the team is on "team closing down", u shud never play a slow short tempo if u cant afford to lose the ball to them during the buildup. I find having a physically strong team with allot of height very helpful in this game. I t's a reason why chelsea are so good in this game, at least in my one they signed a tonne of 19 19+ jump header guys.
