It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Or maybe you never played short passing where the effects are noticable?

One thing you will notice in bad weather, is that the chance that a long pass behind the defence runs out for a goal kick is very much decreased. Very handy to know

Would tight marking be more beneficial for defenders only then? I've tryed a few games with my central defenders on tight marking and they do seem to give the strikers less space.

Cleon: Now, are you talking about a wet pitch, or a muddy pitch, mate? Since 70% (guess) of the games in England are played on a wet pitch, I wouldn't have though that a wet pitch should make that much of a difference. The good teams in England ping it around and I always personally enjoy playing in the rain a lot more. A slick passing game can be played in the rain. Now, if you are talking about a muddy pitch then I don't have an answer since I have hardly played any games on one in FM. I've played in a million IRL on a Sunday. I lost my boot once it was so muddy. No joke.

This is formation based for sure. With a good team, playing against the infamous 4-3-3/4-5-1 I always mark the advanced winger tightly with my full backs, I will mark the lone striker with my best centre back, and I will mark the 2 CMs with my CMs providing they can do the job. It works a treat providing you have the players. In a 4-4-2 playing against a 4-4-2, you may want to go man for man on the CMs if you feel you can benefit. Weigh up the pros and cons depending on the formation and the situation. Sometimes I like to play 2 DMs in the CM position and man mark. I will utilise them as defenders really in an attempt to close up the middle and counter. Man marking can work a treat, but it can back fire depending on the situation. You MUST have the players that can do it or it could go very very wrong.

A wet pitch, on FM it effects a short passing game.

I've never tried tight marking because I'm just worried that the striker might get in behind my defender.

Cleon, have you tried this, if I had the player for it, would it work? What stats are needed? I'm thinking this instruction's quite risky.

It's a risky tactic when employed incorrectly, but if your defender is quick (against a quick player), has high marking, positioning, tackling, and jumping (against a tall striker), it can be quite successful.

Don't know what happened there. Anyway:
