In my formations I have tended to play with AML/Rs. This has always been effective for me - especially since FM06 when wingers became powerful in the game.
However recently - having suffered defensively against two particular teams - I decided to move them to ML/R with short forward arrows to the AML/R postions.
The difference has been amazing defensively and yet I don't seem to be compromised going forward either. Since I'd like to stick with the same formation in every game I play I was wondering what other people think?
Is there an advantage in going with AML/R against weaker teams or can I just stick with ML/R with these short forward arrows for all games? What's the difference?
I thought the players would perhaps tire more but I've seen nothing obvious to suggest this so at the moment I'm optimistic. Anyone like to burst my bubble?
p.s. Something else I think I've noticed is that the opposition seems to have more difficulty in marking (even man marking) players with arrows of any type. Is this true or again my imagination?
I have always used my wingers in the MR and ML positions, with a long f/arrow when in attacking formation and a short or no f/arrow when defending- I think having them start in the AMR/AML positions can leave them out of position too often.

What a massive difference it makes though for such a small change. I agree that it seems to leave them out of position defensively if left in the AMR/L role (with or without arrows).
