I have come to the conclusion that I took over Bradford Park Avenue so that I could say I topped the Conference for the period between the start of the season and the first goal being scored
After two games of the new season we had a 100% record – including a 4-1 win at Stevenage and were second. However five games later, we had taken one point out of 15 and were in free fall.
The squad has expanded to around 25 now, mainly youth players, one loanee GK and three experienced guys as player/coaches. The quality of player wanting to join BPA is not the greatest, but two of the youth signings were looking forward to working with me . There is actually a Democratic Republic of Congo international on the playing staff, and he is by far and away the most creative player on the team. I would anticipate that he will not be with us for long as other teams start to realise how good he actually is.
Finances are OK, although the crowds at home games are poor (generally less than 1000), and the increased squad size means we are now running at a loss every month, and the finances have just dipped into the red. Might have to cash in on a few of the important first team players I inherited.
Board expects a relegation battle and so do I while I try and build the squad from nothing. 19th place will definitely suffice this season

But I won't be giving them major cash injections via that "unmentionable source", any success will be on the back of LLM rules, guidelines and ethics

Regrets, I’ve had a few…...
This one being the biggest in LLM

And to make it worse, they won the Conference title on the second last weekend of the season against Bradford Park Avenue
This rather took the shine off a very good season for the Avenue, who after residing for much of the early part of the season just above the relegation zone, rallied superbly to claim 11th place in the table. Not one of the squad made it into the Conference team of the season, but come the last day of April and the season saw a Manager of the Month award on my desk, and one of our young strikers was Young Player of the Month.
In the cups we crashed out in the first round proper of the FA Cup, losing 3-0 at home to Southend, and in the 4th round of the FA Trophy away at Kidderminster. 11th place means we don’t qualify for the Vans Trophy next season (thank god).
Over the season we signed thirty players, all on free transfers, and three loanees, of which an F RLC from Cheltenham was the pick, but even with prize money and TV rights money, the board are still not able to give me any cash for transfers, and he is transfer listed at a very reasonable price . We also seem to have signed an extraordinary number of players from Northern Ireland. Attendances were pÃ*ss poor during the season, and we averaged under 1,000 per home game. Hoping that this increases this season as the team is far more settled.
Board expectations are to battle bravely against relegation for this season, but I am hoping for a top six finish. The new season beckons

Now that's a daggar to the chest. Good to hear your side rallied though. Here's hoping for a better season next year.

Christmas and New Year have come and gone, and all those doom mongers in the press that said the BPA squad would be relegated from the Conference after only eight games are all having to eat humble pie as the Avenue are currently 7th in the table with only one major addition to the squad - a versatile winger who was out of favour at Kettering.
A few other free transfers, and two other money signings - a DC from Lincoln and the FRLC who was on loan last season from Cheltenham. Sold a couple of the youngsters for four and five times their asking price, just to bring in some cash. Some good youngsters are coming through, and a 19 yo FLC is currently our top scorer.
Still in the FA Trophy, but lost in the first round of the FA Cup to Brighton, after a replay.
Board really are a tight fisted bunch of sods as there is currently £200K in the bank and feck all to spend.

They probably saw what happened at kettering, and are hoping they'll p*ss you off enough to leave so they can get promoted |
