The Brazilian league structure really makes me dizzy.

It's simple Gar3th
You play in two major league competitions each season.
A regional competition in the first half against other teams in your state. (Imagine it as a Lancashire League with Liverpool, Everton, Man Utd etc... a London league, a Yorkshire league... a Tyne-Wear-Boro league etc...)
Then in the second half there is a national competition which is completely unrelated to the state leagues. It is like the Brazilian version of the Football League with 3 divisions. Division 1 and 2 are quite large and you only play opponents once. Division 3 is based on group play and a playoff system for promotions.
Division 1 and 2 both have playoffs at the end of the season. In real life this should be the top 8 teams, but in CM 01/02 its only 4 for some reason (bug??). It is the winner of these playoffs who is the Division 1 or 2 champion!
It's 4 up 4 down between D1/2.
There is a national cup competition played in the first half of the year (Brazilian Cup) with home and away legs for the whole comp. The final is played mid-year between the two league sections.
There is another cup competition for State League Winners called the Champions Cup which is also played during the gap between the two league sections.
The two cup winners, and top 2 teams in the ND1 (and some other random team it seems) qualify for the Copa Libertadores which is the South American version of the ECL. (Format is the same one which the ECL is going to have from next season). Copa Libertadores is held midweek during the state league period.
The 6 biggest clubs in Brazil as judged by some random factor (I think its fixed in CM

) play in the Copa Mercosur which is a made for TV league for the biggest clubs in South America. This is held mid-week during the National league period.
I think that covers it... SI left out a lot of the less important competitions. You can easily play 70 games in a season once you make the top division and possibly 100!
