My scouts weren't able to find any, everyone they turn up is on some Under 18 team and would cost 500,000 to sign or something

Well I'm glad to say there has been a change in how you can sign players at will, which has been a problem in the past, where people have got rid of their whole squad before a season begins & replace it with a new one. What manager does that. Players will now have to get the best out of the present players in the short term & slowly change the squad, as in real life.

One of my bugbears (though not officially a bug) was the ridiculous way you could pick up youth players, who were so good they replaced the crap you already had. As well as being unrealistic, it certainly never happens in real life as any decent footballer, even for lower league level, is signed up by the clubs when they are 10 or so. Even Exeter has a full youth policy.

I think the non youth players need to be looked at though, because it is quite common to pick up non contracted players who are fairly decent at non league clubs. Exeter have pick up two recently, one of whom, a central defender,was Swanseas player of the year I hear, and is quite a find.

Apparently, from what I've read elsewhere, this is what happens after the first season.

A glut of players become free agents, having either being released by their clubs or not been offered new contracts due to financial reasons.
Also, clubs have a number of players (where I read, a 3rd Division English side received 10) appearing in their under 19 side, essentially promoted up from schoolboy age I presume.

So it seems after the first season, everything is hunky dory?

I also think that when players in the u19 squad reaches 19 years old, the manager has to decide if he wants to promote him to the reserves or the the senior squad, or release him.

So after a while there should be a lot of players for free. Most of them will probably be crap though. Which is good.
