Paul, are you saying that if you sold 1 million copies yet only say 50,000 people downloaded the demo that the other 950,000 have no right to complain?
With the greatest respect for your hand in the creation of this whole series....that's utter garbage mate!
| If I accept that my use of the word "everyone" was a little over simplistic, will you accept that your 1m, and 50,000 numbers are equally if not more misleading?
Let me clarify my point. People who tried the demo and found within the demo certain issues would have known that the boxed game would also have these issues.
I dont want to get into a flame war here - I am too busy trying to finish off the match engine for the 8.0.1 patch so you guys can get to play it </BLOCKQUOTE>
I'd have thought that a 1:20 ratio of demo to purchases is fairly generous to be honest - i'm sure your house and car testify to that
Anyway, yes i accept your point and you have clearly acknowledged the point of others on here which is nice to see.
I have just one more small ask of you, despite what others may think, having knowledge is better that leaving us to speculate. Please don't leave us in the dark for so long next time, thanks!

can si promise not to release 09 in the same bug ridden unplayable state that 08 has been released in? almost everyone on these forums agree that 08 was virtually unplayable until the patch was released, and even now it is still far from perfect.im not alone either in thinking that some of the changes that were made were purely cosmetic and didnt need changing.we all pay decent money for the game and i dont think its being unreasonable to expect the game to be perfectly playable on the day of release.ok i maybe expect a couple of things may need to be patched but not in the way that 08 has been. 08 has been a disaster from the day it was allowed to be released in that condition.so how about it si any promises?

re the chairman's comment about sales figures being great, of course they are. every idiot on the planet bought the game when it came out after all the hype about the new improvements.
new and improved bugs, more like it. would love to see next year's sales figures of the first month, compared with this years.

thanks Paul C.
Peeps just be patient SI looks after it customers better than a lot of bigger companies out there. Dont fob us of with half baked useless work a round with an attitude.
Anybody bought the latest Pes for the ps3 will know what I mean.
At least SI dont shaft us. It unfortunate things have happened but at least its not the worst version (in relation to bugs) and it still might happen in future versions even if SI try there best.
However at least they are working to fix it and testing it till its acceptable. However I do wonder if SI could in future once game is released have a public Beta test of all patches to help solve issues.
I dont know how many testers are employed but its hard to imagine the could find more than 80% of the bugs. Not talking of the fiasco problems when some ruthless idiot betrayed SI on last year kindness run up to the release of that version. When they took people under there wing to select them for a beat test of the final stages of Fm2007.
I wonder if its at all possible they could do one without the Bug tools.

Several are demanding an instant release of updates, but what if they have a bug or glitch in them, your rattle would be straight out the pram again, so why not just let them get on with it?

Paul
| I've been defending you guys most of the time so far.
But do you really feel that the burden lies with the consumer's to test your product first to see if there are bugs that make the game unplayable?
I feel that the burden lies more with SI to produce a product that loyal customers know we can trust.
Ultimately you are right about how sales will back up your product or not. I have been a loyal SI customer for quite a few years and always bought the product on the day or release. However, this is the first year I have stopped playing after the first few hours and am waiting for a patch before I start up a new season.
Next year I will certainly plan on not buying the game until the second patch is out. Hopefully sales figures next year reflect that people are unhappy with the initial product, but pick up after your updates and you have your best year yet.
Of course, this is a business so I can't lay too much blame if we consumers keep supporting the product in the shape it is in.

I have to say that there are some good points raised in this topic for and against.
Like many I did try the demo and having done so decided against buying FM08 (although my Dad has now picked it up as a Christmas present for me).
TBH bugs were not one of the reasons as to why I chose not to get the game but I do understand some of the frustrations bugs can cause. I’ve always played CM/FM with my mates (6 of us hot-seating) as well as running my own solo game and I can say quite categorically that none of my friends wanted to start a game before a final patch, Three of them, like me, haven’t even bought it yet. We are still playing our 07 game.
Bugs are inevitable, particularly in a complex game like FM, but for future releases I do feel SI really need to produce a product that on the whole has minor/cosmetic bugs to restore a bit of confidence. It’s wonderful that they release patches, many companies don’t, but I think you will begin to see a growing trend where early sales fall. I might be wrong. I can only speak for myself and for my friends, who feel there is no point getting into FM08 until it’s fully patched.

hey paulc or si , I want to ask 2 questiosn about this patch
1. Will transfers be looked at? if someone if valuaed at 2 million and you offer 6 mill it gets rejected, then i offer sometimes 8-10 mill and gets rejected this is like 5 times the amount of the player.
Also i went to buy richards from man city, offered 17 mill, man city wanted 24 mill, then i offered 22 then they wanted 28 i offered 25 then they wanted 32 mill?
Will transfers be looked at?
2.Team talks / Media
When i do a team talk will it still come up with "didnt appear to be listening" because this is they stupid IMO, will i get asked the same media questions over and over and over which get boring?
thanks.

I'm most certainly not complaining as I have a couple of friends from the States who are computer game designers and I've been working on a Beta test site for another forum (unrelated in any way to this one) that I'm on and know all the potential pitfalls and bugs that can occur.
I would lend my support to SI for their hard work and let's face it...if the game wasn't out yet because they'd held it back to fix the bugs there would be multiple threads asking SI why they haven't released the game yet.
But I would reiterate the earlier point about the Scottish fixtures bug. Having noticed it relatively early on I was able to download the Beta patch with no problems and continue playing, but I can't help but feel that someone ought to have tested past a single season with the Scottish league running to check for these kinds of things. Of course it's impossible to guess that something like that would happen, and again I'm not complaining. But as far as bugs go, it was a pretty major one.
Again I lend my support (not that they need it) to SI and would suggest that we not clog up their time by complaining when that time could be more efficiently spent on the 8.0.1 patch.
Now return to your lives. |
