i think that 8.01 is by far the best version of footy manager, but one glaring problem stands out for me in the realism stakes. The number of chances is almost double what is realistic, even when playing defensively 15 to 20 shots at goal is the norm.
To keep the scores realistic (although there are slightly too many goals anyway) it is the strikers who suffer, missing chance after chance as has been well documented. All that needs to be done is to reduce the number of clear cut chances by around 40% but keeping the goals scored almost the same, maybe a little lower. To illustrate my point heres the set of statistics from saturdays league one games. I do previews and match reports on this divison so i know these are typical stats.
As you will see, only one match produced the number of shots that is the norm for footy manager, and most games fall into single figures for each team's efforts on goal.
It's probably the most talked about issue with the game at present. Many tens of threads, all bemoaning the shots to goal ratio. Reading around, it appears that 8.0.2 will have a match engine tweak, hopefully addressing this.
Also, 8.0.1 by far the best version? Did you not play 7.0.2? or 7.0.1 for that matter. I would go as far as to rate 8.0.1 as the worst version of Football Manager since 2005.
Fm08 is very poor in my opinion. Its the most frustrating version of CM/FM ever, it seems much less fun to play. In this game you seem to have to 'tweak' every single god dam thing with formations/tactics and player instructions to get continued sucess.
Basically it just sucks, and is not fun anymore to the casual gamer :-(
