Why is he unavailable to play club football to 01/10/2007? Anyone know!

I think he got a severe match ban or something like that.

Afonso Alves refused to play football for sc Heerenveen, after he failed to move to another club. He was so dissapointed, that he was 'lost' for a copule of weeks. Not even Heerenveen knew where he was.

Therefore, the Dutch researcher decided to give him a ban in the game, to make the game more realistic.

Unfortunately, if you are another club and buy Alves, he won't be able to play for his new club as well.
