No, I played about 7 games with it. All the friendlies at the start of the season, against Greek teams and I did win, but only really scraped them. Then played Osasuna home, and drew 1-1 and played them away and lost 1-0. So for me the tactic didn't work. Which is a shame as I like the formation.

Hmmm, that's surprising mate. I have had nothing but success with Milan and Everton. Arteta is playing an 8.27 and apparently he's 'unconvincing as a DM.' I have noticed that he does not touch the ball anywhere close to Pirlo.
The only thing that U can think of that I may do differently than you is the slight tweaking that I do. I pretty much change my tactic for every game. I hardly ever play with the same instructions. Same formation and basic set up, but I always change forward runs, defensive line etc.

Another thing: I have noticed that friendlies are not really an indication of form for the upcoming season. When I got promoted to the Premier League with Swansea, I never won a single friendly (5 games), but I ended up finishing 5th. I would try and be a little patient if I was you. I am convinced that players play differently in competitive games.

| well thats odd, when ever i play friendlys i always win by stupid margins, then soon as my first competative match comes along, its like somone stole my tactic and give me a standard one
either way, i think its fair to say friendlys should be look at as walm up for the players and no indication of how good a tactic is |

It sounds to me like your striker is wasted... Have you thought about somehow involving him in the play? Set him to close down alot, tackle hard and generally make a nuisance of himself? Perhaps put him in FL->FR, forcing him to play the entirety of the front line himself, chasing everyone from the rightback to the leftback down in an ttempt to force a mistake? That way when you don't have possession they can't pass it around hteir defence, as he'll unsettle them... They can't hit it to the midfield as they are marked, ditto the strikers...
Not only that, but he may even attract a defender oir two and pull them out of position for Kaka.

| Think you might have a good point there mate. I'm really not taking any chances by allowing him to close down the back 4 am I? If I play with a lightning fast striker I think that I might start to do this. I'll just set him up as the proverbial headless chicken.

| Actually mate, I retrain Mickey Arteta to play as a defensive midfielder and he plays 8's consistently, You can train a player to be accomplished (green) in a new position, but you can never make him a natural. Accomplished is good enough though.
