I've played around with many formations since upgrading to the 7.0.1 patch but keep coming back to this formation, so I decided to set about making a set of tactics to cope with most situations.

I mainly play around with LLM (currently playing as Notts Co with this tactic & have them in 2nd place in the 1st season). Generally the tactic is very sound defensively & keeps plenty of possession (from around 55-60% at home to around 50%+ away from home).

I've gone for 2 Home Tactics & 2 Away Tactics, with 2 other tactics to be used in extreme situations (chasing a goal or defending a lead).

With respect to the Home & Away Tactics I've made them tailored to whether the players team is expected to be either Favourite or Underdog for the match.

The pictures below show the basic formation & team settings, there are quite a few individual player instruction but these would need to be tailored to the players you have at your disposal. Depending on the interest in the tactics I may post my player instructions over the weekend if I have enough time!! :p

Home Favourite

Home Underdog

Away Favourite

Away Underdog

V Ultra Attacking (or defending a lead)

V Ultra Defensive (or chasing a goal)


Obviously these tactics are only oing to work well with players who can play well in the given positions....there isn't much use in playin this formation if you don't have any players who can play as DM's or AMR\AML.

I've found my theory on tactic selection seems to work very well in most games.

Obviously playing as a safe mid table side in L2 (Notts Co) there's a fairly balanced amount of games where I am either favourite or underdog.

It seems to make sense to me that if you are facourites you'd play 1 way & if you're underdogs you'd play another...this is obviously compared to other tactics on here where the onus is on specific tactics against specific opposition tactics.

I do of course tweak to suit specific teams, but have experienced good results without having to change my tactics everytime the opposition changes theirs.

OK, have uploaded to FM Downloads click on the link below then the tactics are in the FM 2007\Tactics\ folder with the name Spear Tactics.zip

I zipped the tactics including a readme otherwise it would have meant 7 seperate downloads.
