None of the tactics have the target man box selected although I do have the FC on Hold Up Ball & generally employ an FC with good Heading & Strength abilities (think Drogba-esque).

The goals do still mainly come from the FC, but the AMC\AMR\AML players chip in with their fair share & the MC is getting 1 every 5 or so games.

Defensively, even with only 1 centre back, this tactic is sound...the DM's seem to take up position on the strikers when the opposition plays 2 up front leaving the lone DC to cover.

Interesting approach, i too found sollitude, in the back 3 with fullbax, much to the mallign of mamy a forumer.

...Your tactica approach is very intriguing, especially given my admiraton from a packed midfield, in accordance with the belief that possession is the prerequiste to success (Apologies for my literarry exuberance, i've used finished reading Dan Brown's latest hour d'ouevre, and have taken a liking to lenthy words, which dont make sense!)

...No screenshots for now as i'm at work, but i'm currently working on a 3-6-1 with the following allignment:

..................FC....................

.....AMC.....AMC....AMC......

DML..........DMC............DMR

.......DC......DC......DC............

Essentially the defensive mdfield trio (i.e. DML to DMR) are all pushing up. The width is provided by, in addition to the wingbax, the outermost AMC, both of whom have arrows to FR/L.

...Oops, and not to forget the sarrows on the centrehalves.

...Being a Goonie, i tried with the Goons, and it worked a treat, Henry as the targetman, with the supply line offering balls for him to run onto was a Monster!

...Walcott on the AMC going wide right forced Hleb to the left-handside, where he had to do battle with Van Persie and Rosicky. Cesc acquired a new position (AMC) and was the firestarter directly in behind Henry...The rest is history!

...Stormed to the title, allbeit with the fortune of some strange results on the part of the computer, Chelsea went on a 5 game winless run (2 draws and 3 losses!!!!), and United had their somewhat customary poor start in FM2007!

...Wasn't satisfied with the above, as i feel that Henry's performances were decorated in AI exaggeration (50 goals in all comps), so thought i'd give the Crystal Palace whip a crack.

...I guess heres where the screenshots are needed, and they will come. But at the moment, its advice which aspirations desire! I find the slow, wide, attacking style seems to be either omnipotent or subservient in the championship, depending on the opposition, one minute i'm bruising WBA 3-1, the next i'm having to weather a Freddy Eastwood storm and cant get the ball out of my box!

...Given that the essence of our formations hail from almost the same egg, do you have any wise words that may keep the peroxide stained hairs on Simon Jordan's neck flaccid?

...Im 2nd in the league at the mo, but no thanks to current form, 3 draws and 2 losses!

...If you were employing a similar strategy, what would the mainstay features of the tactics?

hey topic poster,i haven't tried your tactic but i'm curious as to how the "lone DC" copes against the different combinations of forwards the opposition can employ. it's quite obvious that on the counter attack that player can become double teamed by forwards with flickons etc. can you describe your observations, and also state if anyone short of terry can fill this role?

The DM's are the key when a team counters.

V 2 FC's the DM's will take up positions marking them with the DC mopping up behind them.

V 1 FC & 1 AMC the DC takes care of the FC with 1 DMC taking care of the AMC & the other DMC mopping up.

The engine seems pretty smart enough to figure this out itself....it's not 100%, but no tactic is!!!

@CaptainC I did briefly flirt with a formation identical to this, but couldn't get the players to do what I wanted them to do.

As with my current set of tactics my team formations varied on whether I was favourite\underdog & home\away.
The general formation was for the outside AMC's to have diagonal arrows to FR & FL.
The Wingbacks had small farrows to MR & ML.
The outside DC's had sarrows to DR & DL.

I think my major undoing with this tactic was because I didn't really have players capable of playing the positions, & not having the finances to bring in a couple of decent wingbacks (which I'd imagine to be key in the tactic) made me look elsewhere.

The tactic I use seems to have enough defensive cover, whilst maintaining enough of a presence in midfield to keep decent possession, & having pacy players in the AMR\AML\AMC & MC slots to allow an effective breaking attack (especially away from home)

As if by magic, i seem to have stumbled upon a solution my own puzzle. Having decided to watch a game in its entirety, i observed the frank weakness of my favoured formation. The diagonal arrows on the outermost AMCSs offered much width at the expence of bodies in the centre of the park. With every opposition goal-kick, i effectively lost 2 heads competeing for the ball in the air, an frailty which was tormented by mu opponents.

...The solution: 2-nil down to Chelsea with Arsenal, i swapped the darrows for farrows. The rewards were reaped, and 3 points procured. 4-2 at the Bridge with Rosciky bagging a sencond half brace, and TH following suit. It was an interesting turn around!

...I have since persisted with this orientation, and with my West Brom side, the Koumas, Gera and Greening combo is proving to be too big for the boys on campus!

...Give it a go.

...I've got some interesting screenies, but have since forgotten how to post such a picture?
