I normally use the following system...
Before a game i will only use one of two, either;
We can win - Only if the i am favourites in the media.
Good Luck - If the opposition are expected to win
At half time;
0-0,1-0(winning)or leading by a goal - If playing well encourage, one more goal, etc.
If leading by 2-3 goals pleased and thrilled if 4+ lead.
0-0,1-0(losing) - Disappointed, want more, etc.
2+ goals down - unless playing well then angry
This will not work for everyone but i find for me it has worked really well. I was 2-0 down away to Man City and won 3-2 after i got angry at half time, although i did change team instructions too.
does anyone else try a similar approach or just how you feel on match day.
| I use a very similar aproach and it's working fine, altought i still feel there's something more about teamtalks.
Never tryed thrilled whern loosing, but reading this thread it seems it can work :eek:

Media Prediction: 0.7(Me) vs 9.0 (Opponent)
Pre-match: Think we can win
First Half: Losing 0-2
Half-time: Follow Elie's advice, say thrilled
Result: 3-2 ...My winger with only 4 in heading
scores the winner with a diving header |

So it looks like both moral & your odds before the game play a important part of your team talk before the game. I'm going to test these theories and see if I can come up with some sort of pattern as i'm convinced that this seems to be more vital to winning games in 07 then tactics or training.

I've kind of been spliting time between testing and just playing the game (and ... uhhh ... Xmas shopping witht he wife). I am now of the opinion that all *three* talks (media comments, pre-game, half-time) all have to be intergrated for max results, and that the score is vastly more important than your squad's form.
Two tested obsevations: (1) Your squad is underdog. Media = "this [other side} could cause us problems" Pre-game = "I expect to win" ... This ALWAYS fails. Always gets me off to a terrible first half, tested this combo 10 times and *at best* I was level at the half, with my players showing 6-7 form. If home I could save the game with an angry half time to get at least a draw. On the road I was dead in the water.
(2). Your an underdog. Media = "play our best". Pre-Game = "I think we can win" ... Usually a good start, home or road. never behind at half, leading at half more often than not. It gets tricky at the half though. Haven't tested enough to make strong assertations about what to say at half time, but observationally: Leading by 2 or more "don't let performence drop" seems to be the way to go. I conceded multiple goal leads twice (again, replaying same matchup over and over) with "pleased" or "thrilled" but did not the two times I ran it with no performence drop. When level, say pleased or thrilled depending on form. I was never behind with this start, but I imagine that a sympathize or relax approach would work (since, if you find yourself behind, the opposition is probably much better than you thought).
Again, my macro notes when deciding what to say at half is to A) be consistent with your media and pre-game (not repitious, but consistent). B) Let the score be your guide first, team form 2nd.
A note for further testing. The Full-time talk, where's the link? One theory is that the full time talk should be linked to the other three talks you have with your team before and during the match. The other way to go however is to think of the full time talk linking up with what you are going to say in the lead up to your *next* match. Lets say you fought to an even draw at home against a better opponent. Next game you have a pasty at home. In that situation I told me team "just not good enough" then Media = played down expectations, then Pre-game = wish luck ... and I came out like gang busters, 3-0 at half. (could be reading too much into this ... they were patsies). It seemed significant to me because earlier in the season, with the same 2 team teaser, that time on the road, I had the same draw with the better opponent and I said that I was "pleased" at full time. Told the media I expected to wax the patsies, told my team I expected to win ... and found myself down 1-0, with all my form in the 6s, just getting hammered the next week. (I ended up drawing after I went ballistic at half-time). So my suggestion here is that the instead of thinking of the cycle as: media, pre, half, full, wash rinse repeat ... MAYBE the cycle is full, media, pre, half. ... which would mean that you have to know a little something about your next opponent before you "proceed to match." Just a thought.
Finally, I just want to remind everybody that the only lever I am trying to isolate is the team wide comments. I use a simple set of Rot tactics (attack, defense, score or die, operation shutdown) that I made myself and I am sure are pretty crap compared to the mastery of some of the ones floating around this forum. I'm sure you can *beat* the game on tactical mastery alone. However, I also think that you can *best* the game with simply competitent tactics and the right set of mind games for the situation. I'd like to think that you can win every game just by saying the right things to the right people in the right situation starting 7 days out. So that is what I am trying to look for with these comments.
Anyway, happy holidays. I'm out to buy more crap for people I don't really like.

Sorry. I have an aswer for this. It seems that the AM skills determine well hs is at noting something specific. IE, the worse your AM is, the more "nothing speciific noted" you will see when you ask for feedback. That said, it is my experience that when he actually notes something specific, its the right note, he doesn't seem to "mislead you."
I've tested this insofar that I change my AM nearly every year and the notes I've made to certain players based on the AMs comments are always consistent. The only issue is that some AMs give me more notes than others.

I'm not sure if anyone had this, but I had this option earlier in the game when morale was super low, cos I wasn't winning matches.
There was an option to ask an experienced team member (in my case, Edwin VDS) to talk to the team members and voila! Everyone became happy.
Though I can't remember exactly what the option was. Heh.
