On the brink of winning, need help getting pushed over
I'm in my first season with Alfreton Town (Conference North) and allthough after 18 games I sit one spot out of relegation in 19th (4W, 6D, 8L) I've put together a 4 game unbeaten run. Problem is 3 of those are draws and the one win came on a 93rd minute penalty. Most of the matches are generally low scoring affairs. I've used the same exact tacting for these 4 games and I think the team has adjusted well to it but we still can't get that one goal to help us win.
I've found it very hard to get in new talent as it seems no one wants to sign with me or come on loan (despite having Sheffield Utd as a parent club, they never send me anyone) so I've been working with what little I've been given.
Even by Conference North standards Alfreton is pretty lousy so the the tactic I've been trying to build is being built around a whole team game. I'm playing a 442 with normal mentality and no B/Farrows. My d-line is slightly deep, we play very narrow and very slow with direct passing. My entire back line is set as far back normal I could without them being labeled defensive. My DL/DR's areset to rare foward runs since they gave up a lot of runs down the side. The ML/MR are set to normal just right of midway while the MC's are both set to midway, normal. ST's are as far left normal I could go without them being attacking.
Given this info, are there any suggestions they you could make that would help me score that one goal I need to win?
Also, how should I adjust some of the training schedules like Cleon's for a part time team?
Thank you for your help,
Nick

I don't know if it is just me but a normal 442 is a defensive tactic to me. I play with full backs and wingers moving up (with arrows) although wingers will do just fine for most. If you don't have a forward who has good Jumping then don't make your wingers all the way up to F RL.
However, you are playing very narrow which really diminishes the wingers attacking ability. I also feel that narrow also diminishes full backs ability to defend against wingers.
Direct passing should be coupled with fast tempo.
Your mentality settings are good. I prefer my whole team to have similar mentality so there is only a little difference between them all.
I find counter-attacking being ticked is so much better than it being not ticked. It being ticked does not mean you don't go forward when there is no counter-attacking chance, but rather you take advantage of situations in which there is a counter-attacking chance (more often).
With training part-time, I think you should specialise a bit more on what each type of player needs most.
