The tactic is a slight different version from Synax’s 4-4-2 Free TT&F v3. One of the differences I have is with one of the strikers is playing further behind and I am playing the lone striker as the target man. I have always used Synax’s version but decided to slightly change the tactic to suit the players I have. I am only testing the tactic at the moment with Celtic so there is plenty of room for improvement.
Team Instructions
Tempo – Slow
Passing – Mixed
Time Wasting – Low
Width – Wide
Counter Attack – Yes
Tight marking – Yes (Only Centre Backs)
Defensive Line – Still testing
Passing – Mixed
Target Man – Yes
Play ball to head
This tactic is best suited for home games and can be used for some away games against negative Defensive teams to open them up as the tactic is designed for the play to be spread wide to make more space for strikers and midfielders to get into. The reason I have one of the strikers in the AMC position as the AM/FC for my team is a very good playmaker and likes to drop deep to receive the ball. I also want him running in support as the lone striker is set up as a target man and has been directed to hold the ball up.
The reason why home and away use the same formation with farrows, is because as Synax stated it’s best to get the team to get used to the positions more, instead of one week telling somebody to run further then he does the other week.
Central Defenders - It’s obvious you want your Central Defenders very Defensive but also you have to watch out for things such as closing down. If you have it too high the defenders will tend to leave gaps when closing opposition. Creative Freedom is also set on low as we don’t want them wandering out of their positions. There seems to be a bit of a debate with some people about tackling with the Central Defenders. Some like to use easy and some prefer to use Normal but I do prefer to use Normal as I don’t want my defenders going in light hearted and strikers nipping past them.
Mentality – Defensive (6)
Creative Freedom – Low
Closing Down – Mixed (7/8)
Tackling – Normal
Passing – Mixed/Direct (14)
FWR – Never
RWB – Never
Fullbacks - I’ve set the Fullbacks quit Defensive as I want a solid unit at the back. I usually tended to have the FWR set to Often but did find they got tired quickly and did get caught out of position on the counter attack. I have it set to mixed to they tend to make runs at better times. I also set the Fullbacks cross from deep which means they tend not to go too far up the pitch and also help the ball to the target man.
Mentality – Defensive (6/8)
Creative Freedom – Mixed (10)
Closing Down – Mixed (8)
Tackling – Normal
FWR – Mixed
Through Balls – Mixed
Cross from - Deep
Defensive Midfielder – The Defensive Midfielder is set up as the holding midfielder. I always like him to sit in front of my defence to give them some support. I used to put the Defensive Midfielder closing down often but as from my experiences he will get dragged out of position but I don’t want him not to close down completely.
Mentality – Def/Norm (8)
Closing Down – Mixed (8)
Tackling – Hard
FWR – Never
Through Balls – Mixed
Central Midfielder – I prefer to use this midfielder as one of my creative midfielders. I am currently blessed with two good playmakers in my team as the other one is the Attacking Midfielder. The Central Midfielder has a high Creative Freedom which gives him the chance to get forward. I didn’t want him wandering too much so I set his mentality at Normal so when we lose the ball we have a good solid unit in the middle.
Mentality – Normal (8)
Creative Freedom – Often (14)
FWR – Often
Through Balls – Often
Wingers – I have quick and skilful wingers so the Creative Freedom is set higher than the rest of the Midfielders. I also don’t have the mentality very attacking as they tend to get up very often with FWR set to often. I also like them to close down quickly as they will close down opposing fullbacks quickly which results them in lobbing the ball forward and having a good chance of winning the ball back.
Mentality – Attacking (12)
Closing Down – Often (12)
Tackling – Normal
Creative Fr – Often (16)
FWR – Often
RWB – Often
Cross Aim – Target Man (to head)
Attacking Midfielder/Forward – This is my other playmaker that creates a lot of goals as well as scores them. I have him very attacking with the closing down often. I also like him with the creative freedom often and FWR switched to often so that he can support the Striker as much as possible.
Mentality – Attacking (15)
Closing Down – Often (17)
Creative Fr – Often
FWR – Often
RWB – Often
Striker – My Striker is set up to be my Target man. I have him set up so he is not closing down often and tiring himself out as he is a lone striker and he is not very skilful so I have made sure he takes it easy when the ball is lost.
Mentality - Attacking (17/18)
Closing Down – Rarely/Mixed
Hold up ball – Yes
Tackling – Easy
FWR – Often
RWB – Rarely
Long Shots – Mixed
Stercus Accidit 4-4-1-1 Away
Team Instructions
Tempo – Quick
Width – Narrow
Time Wasting – High
Counter Attack – Yes
This tactic is used for away games as the opposition can be very attacking so it’s best to have a narrow formation to make sure you compact the middle and try to stop the opposition from getting space to make chances.
[b]Stercus Accidit 4-4-1-1 High Attack[B/]
Team Instructions
Tempo – Very Quick
Time Wasting – Rarely
Width – Wide
This tactic is for desperation more as you are losing and need and urgent goal. You could put the farrows on the wingers further up the field and just put the attacking midfielder next to the lone Striker. It is set to wide to try and stretch the opposition so there is space but can be dangerous when attacking so much.
Stercus Accidit 4-4-1-1 Defending Lead
Team Instructions
Tempo – Very Slow
Time Wasting – Often
Width – Very Narrow
Focus Passing – Down both flanks
Counter Attack – Yes
This is the tactic for defending a lead and try to secure the victory near the end of the game, its slow with a maxed time wasting and a narrow style to try to keep the formation tight. I have focused passing to down both flanks to keep the ball away from middle of play and counter attacking is ticked to stretch the opposition and then go for the break.
