Ever since I got into CM/fm, I've always enjoyed the tweaking aspects of the game and never had the patience to just run the same tactic unchanged. This year's version's tactical depth seems to not only encourage but to some extent require a lot of attention of tweaking. My tactics always evolve and even though I've had some decent success, I could never confidently post an upload of one of my tactics because they seem to work "in general" though always depend on the players and those small changes as appropriated for the team I play against and my squad. Many of you who post here have mentioned how overly-tactical the game is, and it can take me a very long time, in full-match detail to be able to sit back and enjoy my squad. I then watch the matches on extended, but only once i have a good enough grasp on the tactic and how it's faring on the pitch. Through the sometimes brilliant and always entertaining work of people like Rashidi (especially his work on the old CM 03/04 - jetscream etc.), Asmo (slider apathy), Clean, wwfan, and many others, I've managed to build on my own tactical approaches and it's made my gameplay so much more fulfilling. CM/fm has been the only game I've ever been into, and I love football, and the tactical and sometimes philosophical depth of the game is truly remarkable.
Some of you have mentioned the pitfalls of "over-tweaking". I had noticed it in past versions and while the effects of form and morele in players here seem to be so much more pronounced than in other versons, I still can't quite conclude if there are any negative effects of small tactical changes. For example, in a 442, when changed from farrows on the wingers to a diamond, or constantly changing your passing style. With my valencia team, I sometimes prefer to let my opponent play before closing them down heavily for the last ten minutes of a half. Or I will change playmakers and targetmen acoording to opposition/form etc. It'is by no means more consistent and very time consuming but it's the most enjoyable way for me to play. I guess it's effective because at times I've managed to produce some attractive football and in the process won a good amount of trophies.
It's a strange question to ask, but "how do you play this game?" Do you simply sit back and let an unchanged tactic flow its course, allowing it to develop among your players or do you constantly readjust according to specific situations. I have read on the forum about some people who will let a tactic run for half a season, but I couldn't imagine doing that without constantly making adjustments. Is there a negative effect on these adjustments?
