If noone posts in a thread for a certain amount of time, it automatically gets closed. So that could be the reason

Ok thanks for the reply Cleon.

End June Update

Im using version 7.0.2.
One of the most annoying 4 day spells ive ever had on FM. Firstly when you start the game up you have Mertesacker out for 2 months. Added to this i had Borowski out for 2 months also because of torn knee ligaments. Then a day later Pasanen broke down in training and will be missing for a month or so. And now here comes the news i was dreading, Klose will be out for upto 8 months with a serious viral infection . Ive taken a right battering before ive even started, but ofcourse we will soldier on.

Ive decided that im going to set up with a 4-4-2 diamond formation as i have always had success with this in Germany.
My starting XI (pre-injuries):
GK Wiese
RB Clemens Fritz
LB Christian Schulz
CB Mertesacker
CB Naldo
DM Baumann or Frings
RM Frings
LM Borowski
AM Diego
ST Klose
ST Klasnic

At first glance, Werder have a strong first team with no immediate areas to strengthen. However with my injuries standing as they are i will need to bring in fresh blood.

Transfers In:
Nothing to shout about really, just bought in 2 good young prospects for the future.
Lauri Dalla Valle - will be the understudy to Diego for the next few years
Vujadin Savic - make sure you have a look at this guy. He's 15, Serbian and touted as the next Miroslav Djukic

Loans In:
With the injuries to Mertesacker, Pasanen i decided it was necessary to bring in some defensive cover and after missing out on Corluka i bought in Marvin Matip from Koln, a good young under 21 international.
With the injury to Borowski i also felt the need to strengthen the left flank and so bought in 23 year old Axel Bellinghausen from Kaiserslautern.

The injury to Klose has made me re-think my attacking policy but with another good target man in Almeida i shouldn't need to worry to much although i am looking at bringing in Eddie Johnson as cover.

Because of the injuries to my key players i've decided on a 2 stage policy.
1st stage: Period intil Christmas/January time. This time will be without my key players and will be a time of steadiness both domestically and within Europe. I have firm hopes of winning the Bundesliga in my first season but will need a steady start. I hohpe to qualify from my CL group aswell ready for stage 2 to kick in.
2nd stage: This will be towards the business end of the season. By this time i hope to have the lieks of Mertesacker and Borowski back and have been playing regularly for a few months and so should be in exceptional condition and i hope to have Klose returning to help fire me home in the title race and to help me do well in the CL.

First update over then, more to come.

did you give Klose a new contract? this is ALWAYS the first thing I do. I would've considered Guardado as an alternative to Borowski.

A back-up keeper is a good idea, although I go for Ustari after a year or so.

No im still attempting to get him to stay, ive offered 4 contracts and hes rejeced them all . Im hoping if we have a good start to the season he will sign one.

As for Guardado, i attempted to sign him but lost out to Liverpool for him.

Are you playing as Werder Diego?

Just started a new game with Werder Bremen. I have chose to use the following formation, which, i feel maximises the potential of key players (i.e. klose, diego, frings, borowski and mertesacker), and also offers the backup players chances too. (vranjes, baumann, zidan, almeida)

________GK________
_RB__CB____CB__LB_
_____^_____^______
_____MC____MC_____
_AMR___ AMC___AML_
________FC________

First team as follows:

GK: Wiese
DL: Schulz
DR: Pasanen
DC: Mertesacker
DC: Naldo
MC: Borowski
MC: Frings
AML: Guardado
AMR: Fritz
AMC: Diego
FC: Klose (acting as a target man, balls to head)

After bringing in Guardado, i'm definately looking for a centre back to offer backup and rotation options, and a good AMR. Any ideas?

Was also wondering if anyone playing as Werder had found a successful long term replacement for Klose? Personally, i think Almeida will be adequate backup for now, but will never fill Klose's boots.

As for Klasnic, i'm definately going to sell him. I think i'll get £7 mil for him easy, and I could definately use the funds. I don't think Hunt will fit my plans either and i'm not sure if Daniel Jensen is good enough.

What do you guys think?

vanSocrateS: yeah I always play as Werder, I've found fm just isn't as enjoyable if I don't have an emotional attachment to my team

hendoc: I've never needed a Klose replacement because he will sign a new contract if you offer one to him before he can be unsettled (i.e. first day on job). Although it is inevitable that Klose will age, perhaps try Jo from CSKA- shouldn't break the bank either

As for a DC, corluka would seem suitable, Huth is quite good (and German) but I tend to wait a few seasons until I can afford Kompany.

Try Modric for AMR, he's cheap but absolute class and will make you a very decent profit

Yeah I tend to buy way too many forwards so Klasnic,Hunt and Zidan always end up leaving. As do Jensen and Pasanen (although that's a personal vendetta against Pasanen)
