i've downloaded quite a few but how do you use them and what for?

For example Lighting textures set on 'screen' in blend mode.
For other textures you must try some 'belnding'.

Depending on the form of Texture really. If it's a Light Texture than apply it in the Layer Setting of Colour Dodge, Screen or Lighten.
If it's a Solid Texture, it works in Most Layer Settings apart from the Settings Light Textures would work in. Comprende?

Yea I did, they are Icon Light Textures. Work best in Colour Dodge, Screen or Lighten
