Well I was right... £5.5m in debt at the end of the season.

I've noticed that a) the administrators are dolts and b) the interest charges on the overdraft appear to be in the region of 20% (£1m interest charge in the last season).

Is that not a bit high? (Don't go comparing it to your current accounts lads... I'm sure business accounts get lower rates than that!)

Good thread. I'd be interested to see what happens when you get 20/30 seasons into the game. Will everyone be bankrupt? And if so, you won't be able to rely on bringing up youngsters and selling them.

In all seriousness though, in CM01/02 I've seen clubs go bankrupt and just stay there, because they don't have the reputation no-one will bother taking them over. In leagues with no relegation, i.e. Scots.Div 3 and Wales, I've applied for managers jobs and been shocked to see debts of more than £500M. After 40 seasons admittedly, but will this be par for the course in CM4?

Depends on how their credit rates. If they are considered a high risk for default, don't have good assets to back up their debt, or have a bad credit history, they could get stuck with things like 20% interest. It doesn't sound as abnormal and overly high if you think about it from the lender's perspective.

It would be interesting to see. I've been keeping tabs in GQ4 (I love flaming the n00bs ) and there's been reports of almost every club being bankrupt about 10 years into the game.

I've also seen reports of lower league clubs making Chester's £5.5m debt look tame. I think I will leave a version of the Chester game running on holiday and report back on finances tomorrow (is that permitted in this forum?)

I don't see why not. I think we need to know things like this. Plenty of the regulars in here run lengthy savegames, and it'd seriously affect things if every club they can ever manage later on in the game are in debt.

Well I'll leave a seperated version of the Chester Blue's thread save running on holiday while I'm at work and will report back on it later in the week.

Expect an update on Friday. What sort of information should I dig out? % clubs in administration?

The only dodgy thing (from an ultra-ultra-zealous point of view) is running two versions of the same savegame. Could be running into dangerous grounds with that one, but only if you look who the best players are and stuff like that.

I'd like to see who had stupidly big debts, but I don't suppose you can look at club's finances without managing them? What you said would be best, how many clubs are bankrupt. I reckon it'd be most of them after 20 seasons or so.

Well if I leave it long enough (say 10-15 years) most of the players in the game will be regens, so that eliminates that problem - because I won't be able to predict who becomes who (not like I've got any money to buy anyway :p).

I'll report back on the clubs by Division, English leagues only I'm afraid.

Righto - this evening my PC will have churned up to the 2020 point, which is were I will post details from:

I intend to provide : a summary of the total financial statements for each club in each division. This will be grouped (so I will say that the Premiership has 4 x Rich Clubs, 2 x Okay clubs and 14 Bankrupt clubs etc etc etc).

Unfortunately, one thing that it doesn't show is the level of bankruptcy (which could range from a couple of £k to £m). I will also draw up an average debt for bankrupt clubs in each division, noting any particular examples I want to show (without naming the clubs, thus avoiding tipping).

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Only to have a look for any news items, i.e. 'Scunthorpe have had their £78M debts cleared' or whatever it says nowadays. But I seem to remember in CM01/02 it didn't always tell you how much a club had been bailed out by. Whether CM4 is the same, I ain't got a clue.
