Grey players can not be used for anything other than making up numbers. You can not offer them contracts or promote them to a higher squad. All you can do with them is select them to play.

Not true. Grey players are just there to make up the numbers. The players that are promoted are regens of old retired players that started the game, not ex-grey players.

They've been there since the first time I ever played CM. I got in on CM2, and there they were. Take over a newly promoted club into Division 3, which I often had to do when my reputation was so bad no one else would hire me.
