The Fest starts Sep. 20th this year.

I think that the fist week is the best, less Italians preying on young women.

There are one or two problems for this trip but none of them are insurmountable IMO.

We don't have next year's fixture list, obviously, but we could make some guesses going on last years lists perhaps?

The Oktoberfest was busy as I've ever seen it last year and getting a table at the week-end is a fecking nightmare and they won't let you book 'em. Going to a match and then trying to get into the fest would be sheer folly at best for half a dozen young Llamas and Iaj too.

We could book a table during the week reasonably easy, if I book it as soon as the offices open next month. The problem with a during the week jaunt is a lack of LL footie.

I'm guessing that we are going to have to plump for a Bayern Champions league game. Alternatively a friend of mine helps to organise an Ireland U18 match against a local B team, a possibility perhaps.

Any thoughts Skwad?

Oliver and me are going to Unterhaching tommorow and maybe we can work out details.

If you do decide to come booking flights and B&B's as early as possible is advised. The city becomes a bit like Edinburgh during its more refined festival but with thousands of acolholics. There is a camp site as well if you want to live wie smelly Kiwis and manky Aussies!

the fist week??!
you scare me!!!

about the date for the meeting in september: Personally I think we should wait until we set an exact date until we know some fixtures for next season. Saying that CL football is an alternative is a tough choice because we can't even be sure that Bayern are going to play at home that week.

Since the new season is going to start end of July/beginning of August, we should maybe wait until then. I don't know if this would be too short-term for people to book flights or get days off from their work or anything, but I believe that 6 weeks organizing time should suffice.

To Ian:

I checked the stats on the official 1860-Website. I guess they should know . Additionally, since Agostino was the favorite player of their former manager Werner Lorant, I'm sure that he was an important member of the first team back then.

Okay, preparing for my Unterhaching experience now, see ya later

It was done.

The German LLaMa meeting part I. is over. Infamous contenders for the title of drunk LLaMa of the day:
me
and
alkinear

The winner is: alkinear - cheer him on when you see him next time

But now to a short (or long?) story of what happened today:

We were supposed to meet in Munich at 12 o'clock. Some minutes after, Mr. alkinear decided to show up, and we started our trip south to Unterhaching.

After around 50 minutes of bus, train and foot we were finally at the stadium. Since we were early we sat in the stadium-restaurant and drank a beer.

All of a sudden alkinear recognized a scarf from our table-neighbours. It was a Dunfermline-scarf and the guys were some strange kind of German Scotland-fans (don't ask me). This was when we first realized that we picked the correct place.

Soon we went on and took our places. The Unterhaching Stadium is really a neat place, there is no running track, seats were beneath roofs, and there was a good atmosphere in it. Official attendance was 2500 (of max. 15000), but I would have guessed that there had been between 5000 and 6000 people.

The game itself was great too. Maybe the players weren't exactly that crappy as you could expect from lower leagues in Scotland or anywhere, but you all know this problem with the German Regionals, so live with it. The game ended 5-1 for Unterhaching, although the Unterhaching fans always claimed that the Bayern Reserves hadn't scored. :p

Things that are worth mentioning:

Bayern Reserves Right Back was maybe 1,50 metres tall and weighed maybe 50 kilograms. His opponent was surely 30 centimetres larger than him.

He was not only small, he even feared the ball. Once in the first half, when the ball was high up in air, falling towards him, he dodged and covered his head with his arms. The ball wasn't shot, it just fell.

All Bayern Reserves players who played on the left side of the pitch were right footed. The only left footed player we could find, was playing on the right center in midfield. (He was even the one who scored the single goal for Bayern).

Once an Unterhaching player jumped and cought a flying ball with both hands (intentionally).

Only yellow card in the game was given for complaining. Tackles with both foots, when the ball was miles away, were not punished

alkinear invented a new form of player naming. You just call the players by completely WRONG names, until your neighbours ponder if they should beat you up.

Well, I guess this list isn't complete, so please add some things you might remember to it, alkinear.

After the game we want back into town and visited the "Forschungsbrauerei", which means the same as "Research-Brewery". I guess the research was mainly about the effects of alcohol on the brains of llamas, because the beer there is the strongest brewed in Munich (7.5% vol.alc.). Prices were okay, food was fine, and we had lots of fun.

Too bad that I had to leave too soon because my girlfriend forced me to be home to share the evening with her.

Next time I really want to see more of you poofs here. So start saving your money for flights!

I'll just note my preferences, for reference, bearing in mind that they're not cast in stone

The Oktoberfest isn't important to me, in fact I'd rather be there when it isn't on. I don't particularly like the Edinburgh Festival, for reasons I'll go into only if you push me One being, it'll be easier to get B&B or a Hotel outwith the Fest.

I'd prefer to go to a Lower League game. I can watch Bayern on TV in the CL any time I want.

The sooner we can set a date (for the greatest time between booking and flying), the cheaper the flights will be. I know from bitter experience how much more expensive they get if they're booked a short time from the flight date.

There you go. That's me covered.

Well Ian It looks like if you are not interested in going to the 'fest, all you British LlaMas and Donald have to do is pick any Saturday and we can go and see any of a bunch of LL teams.

Oliver - when does the new season start this year?

One proviso for me though. I will be getting married the last week in August and will be in Co. Cork, then, war permitting, I'm jetting off to the Seychelles. I should be back in Munich around the 20th of September.

Or maybe you would like to come for one of the last games this season? Too short notice probably?

Aye, a bit short right enough. The further away I can book the flights, the cheaper they'll be
