2007/08 Almagro - Argentinian Second Division
Started at a mid table Argentinian outfit with a three point deduction. A quick look around the squad seemed promising but my scouts were too lazy to find much to add to it. Fortunately the two top tier parent clubs (San Lorenzo and Boca Juniors) were very generous with their kids. We did well and hovered below the promotion spots without ever really challenging and after awhile I got homesick and wanted a move back to Europe.
Position: 4th when I resigned.
Cuoiocappiano
These foolish Italians took me on pretty quick in the Serie C2. However at 10 points a drift from a relegation playoff with 8 games remaining it was an uphill struggle from the start. The team was horrendous too which didn't help much. I cut the gap to 1 by the last game of the season but got thrashed by the team above me. I promptly resigned.
Position - 18/18 Relegated.
Burgos
Barely a day passed before Burgos came knocking at my door from Spain. They were tipped for top spot but sat in 6th with two games left. I won them both and made the playoffs, which I won, and we were into the BBVA.
Position - 4th Promotion via Playoffs.
2008/09
Did I mention we were in debt? Well we were, £7m in debt. So a much higher standard of football and no decent players with which to compete. We loaned what we could from our fellow Basque clubs at Osasuna and Bilbao but even they were bottom end BBVA players. We couldn't afford to strengthen and our giant of a forward left. Add to this that my board in their wisdom figured we should be in mid table. Naturally I was sacked by January.
Position - 20/22 Sacked.
Cups - Lost to non leaguers..oops.
Alto Adige
Another Italian job. Started in the relegation plaoffs but secured our safety quickly. Left them in eighth, they finished in tenth. I took a pay rise to move back to Spain
Position - 8th Resigned to move.
Albacete
No idea how some muppet got these guys relegated as they were top half of BBVA standard when I joined. The ex manager left them in great shape before a move to Getafe and promotion was very easy.
Position - 1st Promoted.
[B]2009/10[/B}
As I mentioned the squad was already in great shape and we had money to spend after I sold our best player for a cool £6m to Athletico Madrid. Spent it on a few key replacements and a little for the future. We stormed the league and took first spot with a few games to spare.
One way or another I'd found myself in the top flight of Spanish football after multiple team hopping.
Position - 1st Promoted.
Player of the Season - Slovakian AM/FC with 22 goals in 24 Games.
Cups - Knocked out by Sporting Gijon early on.
