I don't like tactics not at all. Gordon Strachan once said he just sticks his best 11 players on the pitch, while I don't think he was being entirely honest or serious, this is how I want to play the game.
What I find particularly irritating is that I have to keep fiddling around once the computer learns my systems. While this is clever AI, and I can see why people would enjoy the challenge, do the real Arsenals or Manchester Uniteds play any differently against Wigan than they do against Bolton?
All I want to do is choose my formation and my players. Am I the only one? Is there anyway I can do this in a successful way? Or is this just the wrong game for me?
i very much doubt top managers just stick out their best eleven and hope for the best. That's probably what distinguishes good managers from bad ones. From the sounds of it this is defintely not the game for you, in fact this is the exact opposite of what you're after.
You don't need to change your tactic every game, just find something which works and stick with it. Find something from the tactics forum if you are stuck.
Only problem with this is certain tactics don't work on FM08 when it rains. You can almost guarantee the second you change to "defensive" the opposition will score so I stopped bothering with that lark.
Find a tactic that works, use it. Force the opponents to play your game... I do that, works well against most opponents, with the exeption of Fulham which in all FM verisons I've ever tried always manage to beat me... If they went by who beat who Fulham would be top of the league in my games :x

Yes. Against Bolton they'd keep the ball on the floor and use the flanks. Against Wigan, they'd proberbly target Kevin Kilbane, but other than that they'd get it into the strikers as quick as possible
I see your point though. If I were you I'd get a different game, maybe even stick to PEs and FIFA. If you really want to manage not play, then try FIFA manager, which I am told is more about running the club than playing matches/tactics
While I think adapting tactics is a big part of the game and is in real life, I do agree that elements of the tactics system are too unpredictictable.
What I find annoying is that games can basically be decided on the click of a slider, the tempo and mentality sliders in particular. For example 2 clicks of the tempo slider can mean the difference between winning 2-0 or getting beat 2-0. I have found that using individual settings for the mentality sorts half the problem but the tempo slider should have less settings imo. Maybe just slow, normal, medium and fast for example. I despise the tempo slider because I constantly have to tweak it and even a click seems to make drastic changes in the team's performance. Do you think real managers tell their players to play at a tempo of 5 or a tempo of 7? Is tempo not something that should be dictated by player instuctions, for example telling a player to hold the ball up or play short passes?
You can set up your tactics and play through a whole season without changing them. There's no reason why you can't. But just don't come here complaining the game is broken if you lose most of your matches. Not that I'm saying you will lose without changing them, but obviously tweaking them based on who you are playing will improve your chances of winning
If you want to play 'the way i want to play', go ahead. nobody's stopping you. it's just that the 'way that you want to play' may end up making you lose matches.
Ultimately, its your choice. Do you want to see YOUR style of football, or a winning style of football? with luck, it might be both.
