I also find the game very disagreeable - I've barely won a game with 4 different teams and have lost interest for the moment and returned to an earlier more enjoyable version, but posting yet another moan thread and using words like "proof" is unlikely to get yourself taken seriously!

Can you tell me the dates that these games took place?
What's wrong with the Sunderland game btw? You won 3-1, no problems there.
mc gerrard long shots 18 finishing 16
mc van der vaart long shots 18 finishing 14
mc kewell long shots 15 finishing 15
amc fernandez long shots 16 finishing 15
fc torres long shots 13 finishing 15
Do you really think those two stats are the only thing that decides wether a player will score from long range?

Kingdalglish I noticed that all the unfortunate results occurred in away matches. Whilst the nature of the results seems like pure bad luck I think that a tactical reshuffle could solve your problems.
I had a similar problem with Man Utd in that I was dominating away matches but losing them 'unjustly.'
After getting to late October (still without an away win) I was sacked after losing 2-0 at St. James Park. I refused to let this get me down so I reloaded the game (cheating yes, but as it was a the demo game I saw it as more of a learnig curve - poor excuse I know!) and gave my away tactics a revamp, playing a counter-attacking 4-1-3-2 with slightly short passing and a slightly high tempo and my players only pressing two bars inside my own half. Furthermore even my attacking players had a defensive mentality and lowish creative freedom - I find it makes it easier to play a short passing counter formation if this is so as the players are in far more suitable positions. the results were outstanding and I proceeded to win my next 9 away games.
In summary I believe it to be a far more effective tatic when you allow the home side to come at you somewhat - especially strongish midtable sides with some good players (as do Villa, West Ham and Man City). Probably better to go for the jugular when playing the worse sides in the league.
Good luck in the future, I know all to well how frustrating the game can feel when you feel its out to get you...

How can Spartak Moscow get 2 penalties awarded to them in the game against Leverkusen in the space 10-15 minutes??? What are the chances of that?
The bottom line is that if something weird, strange or just plain improbable happens in the real football then you just scratch your head and marvel in disbelief. But if the same or similar thing happens in FM then you feel somehow cheated, somehow deceived, and you come to SI forums to express utter anger and disgust for the game and its creators. In a sense, this behaviour is somewhat hypocritical and unjustified. And whilst I would agree that FM is not perfect, I do think that it stimulates the nature of football. The funniest thing is that if you watch postmatch conferences, you will see real managers making similar rants and whining in the similar ways to FM players. The only difference is that real managers cannot say that the game is `unrealistic`. Although, I'm sure that Lyon manager would have loved to use that excuse after Lyon were hammered by Rangers.
If you think FM is unrealistic, watch some football.
Eh, smartass. It does happen all the time yes, like now with Bolton or Rosenborg, or Aston Villa. But its not happening with Chelsea EVERY AWAY GAME, or to Bayern EVERY HOME GAME in EVERY COMPETITION! Watch some football, those teams controlleb by humans doesn't loose every match because of some extremely uneffective finishing.
It happens now and then IRL, but in this game its extreme.

A TV commentator (I think) said that Liverpool have won just 1 out of 5 home league games so far this season. I wasn't sufficiently interested to check it out for myself to see if it is true, but if it is it is another example of strange real life runs.
And since the "proof" discussed in this thread is just 4 example games it seems fair to just pick random examples out of real life to demonstrate the point too!

I sucked at tactics in FM07. Even taking charge of super-powers I’d struggle – I couldn’t get Valencia higher than 9th for example. I could only do well in second tier with teams expected to get promotion (Metz, West Brom). Teams expected to struggle? Forget it! I’d been relegated just twice in all the games I’d played from CM98 onwards till last year – four times in the first season for FM07. Arrrgh!!! I started to get better when I actually visited the tactics forums here – now I’m not really interested in downloading someone else’s tactics but I just wanted some ideas of how to actually set up my players. And it transformed 07 for me and has made 08 a lot more enjoyable too – little things I’d never thought of like low closing down for DCs so they’re not constantly dragged out of position, high closing down for attacking players to harass the defence etc. So, so useful.
Having said all that I was still struggling with Valencia in FM08. Not winning enough at home and too vulnerable away. A read of the forums a couple of days ago suggested I was being too conservative at home – I have some of the best attacking midfielders in the world and weren’t allowing them to attack enough – I *genuinely* thought Joaquin was useless for example! At home I lowered tempo, and also lowered the defensive line back to normal just so I wasn’t getting caught on the break so much, raised creative freedom for my world class wingers to do their stuff, and we’re now seeing fewer but better quality chances – with god David Villa able to finish like no tomorrow and Zigic being far less of a donkey than in real life, we’re beating everybody at home.
Away, I read on the forums about how much more solid you are with a DM. Now Valencia have some of the best DMs in Spain so I thought I’d try a 4-1-4-1 trusting that Villa even as a loan striker would still be lethal. First test for this was the big local derby away to Villarreal. I had 22 shots, only 10 on target. They had three... They scored in the fourth minute of extra time (only supposed to be 3...) and won 1-0. Nightmare! The game was *determined* to make me lose!!! Er, or not. So do I throw my toys out the pram and sulk about this ridiculous injustice – “SI your game sucks! I spent 25 quid on THIS???” – or do I try and figure out where I went wrong?? Too many chances going wide so I reduced all my attacking players long shots, ensured passing was down flanks so my counter attacking would be more about moves and getting players into the box rather than wild shooting. Rather than be too defensive I encouraged the two central midfielders to make forward runs whilst still on low long shots. The result? Next away match against Espanyol who were higher in the table than Villarreal had been ... I won 3-0. I’ve since lost just one league away match in three months. I’m now second in the table from ninth and can’t believe the change-around.
The morale of this essay (!) is that it *is* possible to get results if you spend even just a bit of time/thought with the tactics. Okay, I should have been doing a lot better with a class team like Valencia to begin with but even with the morale bug (thankfully it didn’t get too bad before results started improving) I was able to turn it around with just a few tactical tweaks. And I’m rubbish! This game isn’t perfect by any stretch – I’m certainly not a blind fanboy I don’t think - Spanish registration issues mean I can only operate a squad of 25, none of the b-team players are eligible to play, sigh. Half the teams in the division have inexplicably poor morale. A GK with low morale can’t save a thing – you may as well play with no-one between the sticks... But tactics-wise, there *are* solutions and a very useful forum on your doorstep to find them.

Those images are funny. Yeah, too funny, what a joke this game is. What was that really really awful CM game, was it CM4? FM08 is just as bad.
So a game is bad because you don't win a game you dominate?
It's called bad luck, or doing an Arsenal. </BLOCKQUOTE>
No, it's called "completely unrealistic" a 5-minute hatrick by Kuyt of all players. Sunderland scoring 4 at Anfield. Why defend the indefensible? </BLOCKQUOTE>
Yup that happened to me - Kuyt scoring a Hat trick in 5 minutes
