Save game editors? Never touched them. Not that they're bad of course, but the game is so massively complex that I honestly wouldn't know where to start.
Ok, I would. A pen, some paper and a copy of a hex editor. But enough of what I do when I'm alone. :p
As for me giving you a copy of our save game editor source (I assume you mean the real time editor MCFM), no. That just won't happen I'm afraid.
My advice to you would be to get a copy of Visual Studio Express (interesting thread here):

And have a look at the structure.
I'm almost 100% certain that nobody at SI will help you in figuring out the save game structure and there's only one person I know who's even contemplating one, and that's Littleblue50 and that one is for the Mac.
Now, I've said this time and time again but clearly it seems that people don't really think about it...
If you're just 'getting the hang of c++' then you really don't want to go about making something as complex as a save game editor. And I'm not going to insult your intelligence by suggesting writing a 'hello world' program either as all that ever teaches you is to output 'hello world'.
No. My advice to you, is take it a step at a time. If you start trying to build something like a save game editor, then you're in for a VERY steep learning curve. And an even steeper one if this is your first major project.
At the end of the day, take your time. Don't rush it, or you'll suddenly find holes appearing in your knowledge (personal experience). FM will still be here when you've learnt enough to code something really cool and popular!
Don't be disheartened either. I say this to everyone who wants to follow in the footsteps of Graeme Kelly, Boah, Nygreen et al.
