Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default 1) Pass and move and 2) Passing on the ground

1) Does anyone know/has anyone been successful in creating a pass and move type of football?... like how Arsenal play in real life.

and

2) Does anyone know if the tactics can be changed so everything is played along the ground with rare long balls.

I'm playing a 4-4-2 with Short passing and slow tempo in patched FM07 for the first time ever. 8 game winning streak so far, loving it.

IIRC There has been much discussion on making cyber Arsenal here.

Difficult to replicate though, fast, counter attacking, short passes.

Short passing, fairly low creativity so they obey that directive?

I'm not sure whether to have the creative freedom on the lowest, or about a quarter full.

I play as Arsenal- and use short (furthest left of slider) and slow tempo (same notch). I give all my attacking players some creative freedom (on 10 or normal).

I use global mentalities for all of these guys too and often get 75-85% pass completion, usually 55-65% possession, and it's great to watch (with Arsenal mind, I wouldn't try it lower league).

Global mentalities... does that mean right in the middle?

Do you have them scoring goals like we do in real life?

Yeah- mentalities on a team setting- my attacking players that is. Usually give my defensive players a defensive mentality.

It's one-touch football- the goals are quite varied.

I have been playing as Man Utd using 4-4-1-1 formation with team instruction of direct passing an quick tempo.

i need to play a few more matches but hopefully i should have some more details in the next week.

I am at work at the moment so i don't have the players instructions but i have seen some lovely passing between Rooney/Scholes and Carrick

If you increase the time wasting does that mean the team will pass around even slower and have more build up... or does it only come into play near the end of a game when a lead is being protected?

I don't prescribe to that theory personally. I think players either time-waste or they don't- if you want slow, progressive build-up play then use a short tempo.

Of course I have no proof that this is correct, but hey...

Yeah, I agree actually.

Did you build your tactic trying to emulate the Gunners real life style?
