Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

since my last post... I've been keeping track of my results... and I've noticed something quite impressive. Even If I do say so myself.

I wasn't going to post, because this post seems like it is dead... but this is where I found my framework for the tactics that i'm using to get fantastic results.

I'm running with the Lions (Millwall) I'm 1st in League 1. I have taken the pride all the way to the 5th round of the FA cup (only to lose to Bolton in a barn burner of a game that had us tied at 75min). i have 64 points after 32 games played and a +28 goal difference. I'd provide pics but i don't know how to screen capture in FM.

to any extent... what i've found (as i'm sure many of you well know) is that it is absolutely necessary to make small changes in your tactics in the pregame. for instance, switch the sides your strikers are on, change target men, if you are playing a team with a speedy striker, change your defensive line on Team tactics to 8 or 6 in extreme cases, add farrows (long or short) on your wingers for extra attack. Most importantly, if you consistently notice a player who is raping you and threatening often, mark that guy with your best defender (if position allows).

I know that most of you would do this anyway... but i figure that I'd just throw in my two cents... try it ... you will not be disappointed.

Also FYI i have most all original Millwall players on the pitch. I did get eagle for my left midfield and a young Joe Jackson is making his way into my MC position... I play a 4-3-1-2 formation.

cheers!

I haven't had too much time to write. It's good that you are having success with your team. This forum was just made to give insights into how to build solid formations, and if you combine it with knowing which tactic one must use on the day you can achieve success. I think alot of people are waiting around untill someone finds the "Magic" combinations on the sliders that make them win every game, but I know it will be a long wait. It's good that you are tweeking and using your own insights so maybe at one point you could share some things. I was glad when you mentioned Deffensive Line, because that is exactly what I'm working on right now, and how it interacts with Closing Down. They seem to follow each other, and I feel that it works well when your raise your D-line and Close Down more, where when you go futher down on your D-line and Close Down less then you surender too much possesion. I can make the whole team defend on my own half, and counter-attacking works very well with a fast striker, but the match stats look horrible. Ok in tackling % but horrible shots on goal, possesion, and pass complition. I tried a D-line of (9) and Closing Down (9) and tweeked a little to keep my concept (Not recomended after testing unless you have to Deffend for your life but then I would use a 5-4-1 tactic). So if you have some time tell me which D-line and Closing Down you use in different situations and if you could tell me your impression of what's going on, it would be much apreciated. I'm trying to find a good balance, because the Closing Down I mentioned earlier was just a base so it would be nice to hear what you think. It's (for me) the hardest part to get functioning. Thanks....
