I've started a game with Vila Nova in the Brazilian Second division. I have went through the available players and the only option open to me right now is a 5-3-2 attacking formation.
This formation was a extremely effective formation back in the heady days of CM 01-02. Back then you could get away with a 3 man defence. I don't think the same can be said nowadays. Due to this I have fell into the trap of relying on the classic 4-4-2 model an I must admit I have become a little bored.
Having raked through the resources available to me I have decided to rush in and create a 5-3-2. The problem for me here is that I want to get the wing back instructions bang on. I feel these offered the most potent threat as far as attacking is concerned.
My formation is as follows
These are my wingback instructions
I haven't tinkered to much with the mentality as I feel its important that they maintain a healthy balance between attack and defence. My wingbacks aren't the best so as you can also see most options are left pretty much neutral.
I woulod appreciate some feedback on this as I am still getting to grips with this match engine. Cheers dudes.
Yeah, I like attacking fullbacks so I would like to get 5-3-2 working in this game. Your passing level looks spot on. Try lowering creative freedom a little, you want your wingbacks to hug the touchline mostly. I would also try lowering closing down, the logic here being that if he commits himself too early to the tackle he may leave the flanks of your defense exposed.
Try lowering the mentality a little aswell, if he's constantly making forward runs then you want him to atleast be clinical with his posession and not attack without thinking. However it might be beneficial if it gets a direct pass down the channel to one of your strikers quickly. Why crossing on mixed? Wingbacks should cross constantly.
GK-Stekelenburg, DCs-Mertesacker-Andreansen-Naldo (this way I use all the great DCs Bremen has), WBL-Guardado, WBR-Eduardo Ratinho, MCs-Borowski-Frings (perfect pairing, I believe), AMC-Marcelo (retrained...his ratings are perfect for this position), FCs-Iaquinta, Delgado.
Managed to beat Hertha Berlin 6-1 at home, with Ratinho beeing the MOM in his first match. Hertha played in a 4-4-2 diamond with MR/L and had 0% succesfull crosses. It looked promising, although I think this 5-3-2 would fail to perform this good against 4-2-3-1 formations, or basically any good formation with AMR/L. Has anyone here managed to be consistent with the 5-3-2, or should I just go back to the 4-4-2?
So no one has tried it? I'm still having great results with the 5-3-2 attacking: just won against Atletico Madrid in the CL 4-1 away. The cpu insists in 4-4-2 variants and keeps getting trashed.
