Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Training Goalkeepers.

I was quite happy with my own training programme for my goalkeepers. I had trained up 4-5 goalkeepers that I bought from premiership youth teams, and then flogged them on for a large profit.

Now I am about to be promoted to the Championship and i'm being to think about hanging on to my 'keepers to try and get into the Premiership. Having reviewed my training schedules I created 7 seasons ago I have a few questions about training goalkeepers.

I Have strength/aerobic just into High, and Goalkeeping just in intensive. I had ball control on half way and tactics 2 notches in medium, with the rest in set pieces.

Now I wonder why I'm training so much ball control, the traing attributes graph only shows ball control and technique when you select Ball Control for a 'keeper. Neither of these I am really worried about that much for a keeper, so I dropped ball control a bit and upped Tactics to halfway.

I don't currently train Defending at all. I didn't think it was very important as it doesn't even have a tab on the attributes graph for a 'keeper. I am a bit worried about 2 of my current 'keepers as they have very poor ariel ability like most of my 'keepers (the reason I have Goalkeeping on intensive) but also poor concentation and one has poor positioning. Should I consider adding defending training to all my 'keepers or is it not all that important?

Strength for keepers is not needed that much.

Aerobic is what increased Jumping, and Reflexes.

Goalkeeping is obviously Aerial, Handling, Kicking, Throwing and 1 on 1.

Tactics will be usefull for Anticipation, Decisions, Positing, Command Of Area.

Ball Control is not needed. Mainly for Attacking players.

Defending will only be good for Concentration..

Attacking and Shooting not needed. Set Pieces not needed.

In Short, get a 19 or 20 goalkeeping coach, set your sliders to:
Targeted GK Training. Medium Workload.

*Note, I am a part time club, so my own training is much reduced, this is the game tells me a Full-Time training workload would be.
Full Time GK Traning, with a Heavy Workload

*Note, you could drag tactics back 1 notch and put defending up 1.

Hope this helps.

Thanks that makes a bit more sense the orginal training programme I had.

I don't like having my players on workloads higher then normal. So I'll modify my schedules to keep them one notch under heavy.
