Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Away Day Blues

my first question is how to solve my away game blues?

i'm playing as Manchester United so i have a good team.
now for the good,at home my record is 1st class

pld 14 w13 d1 l0 f32 a1 pts40 yes ONE

now here is the problem, my away record is shocking

pld 15 w2 d5 l8 f11 a21 pts11

having tried everything on the forum, i was just wondering if i had missed something that i should be doing for away games.

media > if asked should i say something

team talk > what to say at before match ht 0-0 ht 1-0 ht 0-1

tactic wise is there any no no's and any musts for away games

the tactic i've made is a 4-1-3-2
1 dmc. mr ml mc all with farrows to amr aml amc. now i don't want to totally change formation, but any help would be greatfull

cheers Pele10

Tactics - Look at using a narrower formation. You don't have to change your tactic, just edit your team instructions. A general rule is to play wide at home and narrow away.

Team talks - Be less harsh with your players when playing away.

I agree with you, this game is ****ing me the **** off. I'm about to break this ****ing CD and send the shards back to the SI offices for creating such a frustrating experience.

My team absolutely DOMINATED friggin reading, 8 shots, 7 shots on target BUT NO FRIGGIN GOAL. I cant buy a ****ING goal against that crap team. Rooney is in behind the defence, HE ****ING SKIES IT from like 2 yards out. There's absolutely no explaination. How the FREAK can utter SHITHOUNDS like INGIMARSON and friggin SODJE keep Wayne Rooney and Luca Toni at bay is BEYOND ME. I GIVE UP ON THIS CRAP

Ha! Oh look! What's this? I'm dominating a team 8 shots to 2, the opposition score of a freekick and a deflection, I'm losing 2-1. HA! What a joke.

alright lads calm down

I'm managing Scun'thorpe and play an attacking 4-4-2 formation, at home I play the following:

Mentality: Attacking (one bar up from normal)
Passing Style: Direct
Tempo: Normal (2 bars above half way)
Time Wasting: Rarely
Width: Very wide
Focus Passing: Down both flanks

Everyting else stays at half way.

Away from home I change too:

Mentality: Normal (1 bar above from defensive)
Passing Style: Direct
Tempo: Quick
Time Wasting: Rarely
Width: Very Wide
Focus Passing: Down both flanks
Counter Attack

I won promotion in the first season finishing 2nd without signing a single player. But can I stress this tactic works so effective with the players I have, I use direct to get the ball up to the front 2 as quick as possible (Sharpy and Keogh) arguably the best 2 in that league. Away from home I sit back allow them onto me and try hit them quickly.

Lads, if you go a goal down/up do you change? I must change team instructions at least 3-4 times per game, i.e played Brentford at home and was down to 10 and getting beat 2-0, switched from my offensive tactic and allowed them to come onto us, when they did this I switched to hitting them on the break (which I don't do at home only against the big teams) and ran out 5-2 winners.

I moved upto the championship and brought in around 12 players, Keogh's min fee was activated that I had set and he moved on for £5m. Eddie Johnson and Keigan Parker were drafted in for a total of £2.7m. Anyway the tactic struggled I lost my first 2 games, thought I had been cracked by the AI but it turned out my players were just gelling, reaping the rewards now lifted the team upto 7th in the league after 10 games.

Loving it at the mo

Hope it helps...

pele, may I suggest that you try playing all your players with low defensive line and medium closing down, away. What happens with this set up is it tend to bring your players back to thier position before closing down the opposition. Players will go head to head against a player who is running at you rather than defend while running towards your own goal. High closing down tends to do this if the game is played mostly on your half.
