i also made another topic to discuss about possesion.... ive been winning games but losing possession.. in the latest game against chelsea playing as MU in the first 20 minutes i had 15 shots with 10 shots on target... my back i used rio djorou(spelling)? marcelo and gary neville chelsea barely had any shots.... in this game i had to change my tactic a little bit with my wingers of ronaldo and silva(valencia on loan) without any farrows which i dont normally dont do i used diamond 442 with cambiasso as DM... ive read alot of threads from everywhere in this website and made a lot of tweaks like not using the DCs and DM not having high closing down and so on
so far in my 1st season i only dominated 1 game against who i forgot..... my worst game would be the 4-1 lost against liverpool at anfield n the second was the 4-4 draw against reading at madjeski...
how the hell do u keep possession?
btw i beat chelsea 3-1 with drogba scoring for the visitors about 80 minutes into the game...

what are your player mentalities? becuase if they are far apart then the platyers will be too far apart to make good moves. for example i only have 2 players who are not on a normal mentality(CB's). and usually short passing and a slow tempo works

i agree with aston_martin. if the mentalities of the def, mid and att are very different then you are more likely to give the ball away. Plus the tempo also counts. Short pass & slow tempo will keep possession. but if you play with a higher tempo you are more likely to lose the ball coz more long balls are played. try reducing the mentality of your att, esp. the wingers or play more narrow. Also don't forget that the team you are playing will change their tactics during the game, maybe that is effecting your stats. Sounds all in all like you doing ok though even if your not keeping the ball as much as you like.

so u say i must set all the players with the same mentality?
well the latest update about my game(2nd half of the season)is my team is suffering from a lot of injuries n i hav no left winger.. had to use evra instead... i had the worst of my life starting with a home draw against everton both teams only got 5 total shots.. the next three games were all losses in FA 5th rnd to porsts a league cup 1st leg loss to newcastle n a 1st leg lost to werder bremen in UCL 1st leg 1st knockout rnd.. god i really need help with my finishing.... i used the 'one-touch football' works 4 a couple of games n then losing the 3 games.............hmmmmm?

wat is ur formation?
but even though i use almost the same mentalities as urs my defense keep leaking goals
wat does the players do with this mentality setting? r u saying that there shouldnt be to much difference in mentality between DFs and Attacks?
if i used my tactics of all DF to mentality 0 or 1 and midfield up to att is 20 it would work with a 433 in previous versions
also if u name ur tactic let say 'tactic 1' n play a game or two, will the AI or next opponnensts discover the tactics?

mr.Flair, id reccoment you to use the 5x5 defensive line theory. Keeping possesion is all about the players mentality throughout the pitch.
Not to forget your players capabilities (passing, off the ball attributes especially) really influential on how good you keep possession. The team instructions on passing slider and tempo.
I'm using celtic, the squad has average passing hence i use 1-5 passing and 1-5 tempo (slow). However, i recently use Liverpool.. i changed the tempo to 17-20 (Quick). I managed get 58-70% possesion at home.. and 55-60% away (depends on your opponents, i mainly use counter attack, direct, narrow and defensive mentality against big teams away like Chelsea, Man Utd, barca and such)

| No you don't the simplest way to play is obviously having the whole team on one mentality except for your defenders, but personally, to keep possession, I divide the team into 2 parts.
Attack and defense 5 players in each. Each group has a range for defense it will be 6-10. So if I use a defensve midfielder he could be on 10. The attack will range from 10-14. As you can see there will be overlap of mentalities. Its easy and effective.

| In your opinion rashidi, what passing and tempo would be the most effective? Say you are using wolves and liverpool? Ive been wanting to use a back four system with this theory.. m just enjoying 'choking' opposition too much (six man midfield) that i forgot how balanced and effective a 4-4-2 (diamond, flat midfield.. any backfour formation-4 man midfield system) system is.
