Was the player at a club though? I've experienced trying to sign players for nothing from other clubs, and the deal has fell through because a nominal fee is due (probably something like £200 which doesn't show up on your finances). Signing players that aren't club contracted should still be allowed.

I thought the rules were along those lines as well. It hardly makes sense to cease all spending on transfer and then to allow you to add to the wage bill, further adding to the potential debt :/

You can't sign free players; have to accept any bids for your stars, but can hire emteen coaches regardless of the financial situation. Aye, doesn't make sence does it.

I don't know how you manage that. I always am crippled by the low amount that clubs want to pay their physios. Especially in Colombia.

I have had p/exchange deals cancelled which I find starnge considering no cash is changing hands.
There is a value to pay on all free transfers coming from a club. It is mentioned in the contract offer screen.
